The 2026 festival season marks a turning point for Filipino music on the global stage. Coachella sent shockwaves through the industry with a lineup headlined by Sabrina Carpenter, Karol G, Justin Bieber, and then, the nation’s girl group BINI, who are set to make history as the first Philippine-based, Filipino girl group to perform at the iconic desert festival. While on the other side of the states, Lollapalooza unveiled its own star-studded roster, including Charli XCX, Olivia Dean, Tate McRae and the kings of P-pop, SB19. Additionally, SB19 is set to return to Tokyo this August to perform at the landmark 25th anniversary of Summer Sonic.. For our music scene, this moment feels surreal. Something that once seemed like a distant dream for Philippine-based artists is now unfolding in real time on the world’s biggest stages.
For years, P-pop has often been viewed through a skeptical lens, dismissed as derivative or confined to local appeal. But by sharing festival billings with global superstars, BINI and SB19 are sending a clear message: Filipino music is no longer on the sidelines, it is a legitimate move in the global music conversation. Their presence alone challenges outdated perceptions and opens doors for a new generation of artists aiming beyond borders.
Beyond industry impact, these festivals serve as powerful platforms for cultural exchange. When BINI performs hits like “Pantropiko” or SB19 delivers anthems like “Gento” to massive international crowds, they are not just entertaining, they are showcasing Filipino language, artistry, and identity to a diverse global audience. This kind of exposure creates a ripple effect, sparking curiosity about the broader Philippine music scene and encouraging international listeners and industry players to look closer. Speaking of wider reach, both groups recently joined the global fan platform Weverse to promote their projects and interact with fans around the world
At the same time, the demands of performing at festivals like Coachella and Lollapalooza are raising the bar for live performance standards. These stages require not just vocal ability or “biritan”, but world-class stage presence, live musicianship, and the ability to command massive audiences.
As BINI and SB19 continue to refine their craft through intensive training, they set a new benchmark that will inevitably influence the broader OPM landscape, elevating the quality of live performances.
These festival appearances are the culmination of years of hard work for both groups, unwavering fan support—both in person and online, and a refusal to be limited by geography. It’s a massive step forward for our music scene. We hope to see even more Filipino artists headlining major festivals in the future. BINI is set to take the Coachella stage on April 10 and 17, 2026, with tickets already sold out, while SB19 will perform on Day 1 of Lollapalooza on July 30, 2026. Following Lollapalooza, SB19 will be performing at the second day of Summer Sonic in Tokyo, Japan on August 15, 2026
