HONNE Returns to Manila and Makes Hearts Sing

After four years, HONNE came back to Manila for the fifth time for the Philippine leg of their May 2023 Asia Tour. Thousands of the English synthpop duo’s fans filled the Araneta Coliseum on May 10. The duo, Andy Clutterbuck and James Hatcher, also performed in Davao on May 12 and in Cebu on May 14.

BEKA opened the Manila show with “More Than Friends” and “Don’t Call Me A Friend.” The English singer-songwriter, who has frequently collaborated with HONNE, also told the story behind her song “I’ll Be There” before performing it.

HONNE started their set with “IDGAF About Pain” from “Let’s Just Say the World Ended a Week from Now, What Would You Do?” — their third and latest album. They followed it up with the upbeat “Me & You” and “Free Love,” which got the crowd singing along.

“I can already tell that this is going to be the best night,” Andy told their fans. Providing backing vocals for HONNE’s set, BEKA stole the spotlight with her clear and cool voice when she joined the duo for “Location Unknown.” They followed it up with “Coming Home,” encouraging the crowd to sing along.

In between songs, James said, “I think this is my most favorite gig I have ever played. You guys are the best.”

HONNE continued their set with “306” and “Good Together,” and BEKA shared the stage with them for “Crying Over You.”

A fan named Micah had a sign that said it was their 25th birthday yesterday, so Andy and James asked the crowd to sing the birthday song for them.

The show continued with “Shrink,” and the crowd turned their phones’ lights on for “Heartsong.” BEKA joined HONNE again for “Someone That Loves You” before the duo performed “By My Side,” with Andy dedicating the song to his wife. HONNE also sang “What Would You Do?” and “La La La That’s How It Goes.” Some crowd favorites “Back on Top” and “Warm on a Cold Night” finished the set before their encore.
For the encore, HONNE went back on stage with “No Song Without You.”

“I’m someone who suffers with impostor syndrome. You kind of believe, like, you’re not worthy and you shouldn’t have achieved all these things,” Andy said. “Tonight, for the first time, I feel like we are a proper band.” He also thanked the fans for giving him confidence. James added, “I 100% agree.”

The most requested HONNE song “Day 1” wrapped their Manila set.
While the crowd made their way out of the coliseum, “smile more smile more smile more” played and it ended with the screen showing a message from HONNE to their fans: “Thanks so much for being here today. Take care of each other and get home safely.”

With adorable visuals and colorful lights in the background and fun stories in between dreamy songs, going home from a HONNE show just gives you a warm and happy feeling. It’s no surprise that HONNE has their fans’ support and love since day one.

Filipino newcomer Benj Pangilinan steps into the spotlight with debut single “Love, That’s Rare”

Benj Pangilinan forges his own path in the music industry as one of Sony Music Entertainment’s newest recording artists in 2023.

Coming from an esteemed lineage of established actors, music icons, and prominent entertainers, the promising newcomer is keen on proving skeptics wrong with an impressive debut that digs deep into young romance and nostalgia.

His new single “Love, That’s Rare” gazes wistfully at the complexities of love while acknowledging its effect on shaping one’s worldview—for better or worse. Benj wrote a song that transported him back to a specific time and place, helping him make sense of the conflicting emotions he was experiencing at the time.

“I wrote the song a while back, and to be honest, I’m not entirely sure why,” Benj shares. “Lyrics and melodies come in like a thief in the night. It’s all about knowing how to catch and record those creative flashes.”
Grammy-nominated Xerxes Bakker, who has collaborated with some of the biggest names in music, including Imagine Dragons and Snoop Dogg, is responsible for producing the track. Incorporating ‘80s soft rock spectacle with electronic flourishes, Xerxes gives Benj Pangilinan a playground to showcase his versatility and songwriting chops while ensuring that the structure is sturdy enough to weather the cracks. The result is a fine piece of contemporary pop that will surely stick around for quite a while.

Benj recalls how immediately comforting the experience was, after meeting Xerxes for the first time. “There was an immediate click. After some conversation, you already knew the visions were aligned. In terms of a production standpoint, it’s all about coming to a mutual understanding of the vision for the song and developing that trust with each other.”

Benj Pangilinan’s “Love, That’s Rare” is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment.

Filipino-Australian RnB singer RINI brings Past The Naked Eye Tour to Manila this July

Live Nation is thrilled to announce the Melbourne- raised artist RINI in Asia! RINI is set to perform in Manila this 19 July 2023 at the Samsung Hall in SM Aura Premier as part of his PAST THE NAKED EYE 2023 TOUR.

RINI will kick off the tour in Singapore on 17 July, followed by Manila, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Seoul, and Bangkok.

Tickets to public will go on-sale on Wednesday, 31 May at 12pm local time onwards via SM Tickets. Visit livenation.ph for more details.

ABOUT RINI

Since the inception of his musical career, RINI has been endowed with this unique responsibility to share his truth. The Melbourne-raised artist speaks directly to listeners while wearing his heart on his sleeve, relinquishing control of his emotions in a way that has a liberating effect on people. Being vulnerable is a heavy cross for RINI to bear but the end result has proven to be cathartic for his creativity, equipping the genre-defying R&B singer with something real to say: “I just want to take my time with songs,” he avows.

In 2021, RINI unveiled his 12-track debut album Constellations, an ambient collection of sounds that explore the nuances of love, which garnered praise from media outlets like Complex, Rated R&B, and UPROXX – the latter describing his project as,“an out-of-this-world touch to RINI’s music, offering a beautiful love story that any hopeless romantic would die for even though it seems far too good to be true.”

Through a sultry falsetto and soul-stirring voice that’s universally embraced, the 24-year-old songbird revealed an emotional depth in his songwriting that doesn’t feel out of place. His creative process is fluid and impassioned, turning small, mundane details into romantic neo-soul fantasies. Now, after emerging as a remarkable new talent poised to thrive in today’s R&B landscape, RINI is laser focused on continuing to push the boundaries of modern music with his unique style, accumulating over 376M streams across platforms while averaging 2.2M monthly listeners on Spotify to date.

Over the years, RINI became emboldened by the discovery that music can shape the world around him. From relocating out West to acclimating himself to the fast-paced lifestyle, this stage of his career has been about growth and self-discovery. As we see him today, RINI is ready to showcase a new side of his artistry with UltraViolet, his sophomore EP arriving this Fall. “[UltraViolet] comes from a different place, of different influence,” says RINI. “It’s bolder, more upfront and a more dauntless version of RINI that translates into the sound of the EP. I’ve taken a different approach sonically and I could say that I’m taking a risk with some of the songs simply because it’s different to the usual vibe that you would expect to hear from me but that’s really the whole point of it. UltraViolet is the product of this.” UltraViolet is a pivot from the narrative introduced with RINI’s debut album, unearthing another side of his artistry that mirrors the changes he’s experienced since the pandemic. Unlike anything he’s released before, this project sets the tone for a new chapter in his sonics – one that is confident and courageous.
