Get to know Japanese rock band RADWIMPS and catch the Manila leg of their 2024 World Tour “The way you yawn, and the outcry of Peace” on May 1 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum!

1 — RADWIMPS formed in 2001 in Kanagawa, Japan, and they have since amassed a dedicated fan following not only in their home country but also across the globe.

2 — Band members Yojiro Noda (lead vocalist, songwriter and, guitarist) and Akira Kuwahara (lead guitar) formed a five-piece band of local friends during high school. They joined a band contest then where they met Yusuke Takeda (bass guitar) and Satoshi Yamaguchi (drums).

3 — Makoto Shinkai, one of Japan’s most commercially successful and highly acclaimed filmmakers, is a RADWIMPS fan, so he recommended the rock band to score the 2016 animated film “Your Name” as soon as its production was confirmed.

4 — RADWIMPS performed as the opening act for Coldplay‘s Tokyo Dome show during the British band’s 2017 A Head Full of Dreams Tour.
5 — RADWIMPS’ 2019 “Weathering with You” album, which was the soundtrack for another Makoto Shinkai movie with the same name, won as Animation Album of the Year at the 34th Japan Gold Disc Award.

6 — The rock band released “Suzume” in 2022, and it was a collaborative album with composer Kazuma Jinnouchi. It is the soundtrack to the 2022 Japanese animated film of the same name, directed by Makoto Shinkai. RADWIMPS bagged another award as the album won Best Music at the 46th Japan Academy Film Prize in 2023.
