Quezon City, Philippines–The longest-running and biggest metal festival, PULP Summer Slam waved a loud goodbye to all its fans last March 23, 2023.
Dubbed PULP Summer Slam XX, it is the 20th and final installation of the fest.
Filipino metal and music fans, along with the festival’s devotees, danced through Sunday with foreign acts Parkway Drive, La Dispute, Story of the Year, Of Virtue, Rolling Quartz, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Fit For An Autopsy, Prompts, and Crypta.
Many people grew up, and eventually matured, along with the slam. Manila Concert Scene will also miss summers listening to music in Amoranto Stadium.
So, here’s a little tribute:
Like any summer in the country, concerts are a thing. But PULP Summer Slams always differ from others.
Finding the venue is easy since following people wearing black shirts will always lead you to the gates of Amoranto Stadium
Along the way, you met these guys. And were invaded as well…
You also met Tita, now Lola, Monching…
… or them.
It might be more than two decades since we entered the venue where, maybe, we first heard loud in-your-face music. A lot has changed. Just like the stage layout.
But some things never did change.
Like, having a crush on someone in the crowd…
raising our horns when our favorites enter the stage …
And dancing our hearts out every time we hear guitar chugs and drum beats.
You were all there…
… to form a circle like this:
That eventually evolves violently into something like this:
For every comrade who was brave enough to jump and bump everyone…
Even if some fall on the battlefield…
We help them rise again.
So that they can once more join the circle.
It has been 20 fun summers.
Even though some things aren’t meant to be…
We continue to do, what we do.
Twenty poetic years indeed.
Pictures do fade away. But always remember that memories are forever.
Until the day we die.
