This June, prepare to be swept away by the world of classical music as Film Concerts PH presents a highly anticipated concert in Manila with internationally acclaimed violinist Ray Chen and award-winning pianist Chelsea Wang on June 10, 2026, at the Proscenium Theater, Rockwell Center, Makati.

Hailed worldwide for his performances across Europe, Asia, and the United States, Ray Chen has appeared with esteemed orchestras including the London Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, and Berlin Radio Symphony, collaborating with renowned conductors such as Riccardo Chailly, Daniele Gatti, and Kirill Petrenko.

He first rose to international prominence after winning First Prize at both the Yehudi Menuhin Competition in 2008 and the Queen Elisabeth Competition in 2009. Early in his career, prestigious classical music publications Gramophone and The Strad named violinist Ray Chen a “one to watch”. Since then, he has received an ECHO Klassik Award, been featured in Forbes’ 30 Under 30 Asia, collaborated with Giorgio Armani, and performed at major international media events. Corriere Della Sera noted, “It’s hard to say something new with these celebrated works; however, Ray Chen performs them with the kind of authority that puts him in the same category as Maxim Vengerov,” while Anne Midgette of The Washington Post shared that “Ray Chen can do pretty much anything he wants on the violin.” In 2025, Chen began exploring rare violins, play-testing more than 20 Stradivari and Guarneri del Gesù instruments. Among them, a 1727 Stradivarius has become a favorite and is the violin he currently performs on.

For this Manila concert, Chen will be joined by award-winning pianist Chelsea Wang, praised by The New York Times as an “excellent young pianist” and who has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician across North America, Europe, and Asia. Her appearances include Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, and Konzerthaus Berlin. She is a prizewinner and finalist in numerous national and international competitions, including the Seoul International Piano Competition, Washington International Piano Competition, and New York International Piano Competition.

For his first solo recital in Manila, the performance will feature the following compositions:
W.A. Mozart: Violin Sonata in B-flat Major, K. 454
Edvard Grieg: Violin Sonata No. 3 in C minor, Op. 45
J.S. Bach: Preludio – Loure – Gavotte en Rondeau from Partita No. 3 in E Major, BWV 1006
Pablo de Sarasate: Playera, Op. 23 No. 1
Pablo de Sarasate: Carmen Fantasy, Op. 25

Featuring 2 hours of music with a 20-minute intermission, this recital marks Ray Chen’s much-anticipated return to Manila. Secure your seats now at https://tinyurl.com/MCS-RayChen
