The seven-times platinum Night Visions first arrived on September 4, 2012, paving the way for a bold new future for rock music. It bowed at #2 on the Billboard Top 200 and yielded some of the most impactful, inimitable, and inescapable anthems of the last decade. It has impressively eclipsed over 20 million in global consumption, while the diamond-certified Hot 100 Top 3 smash “Radioactive” (14x-platinum) garnered a GRAMMY® Award nod in the category of “Best Rock Performance” out of two nominations, including “Record of the Year.” The record also occupied a spot on the Billboard Top 200 for 408 weeks.

Said the band of their momentous debut album, “Night Visions is more than an album. It is a documentation of the moment when we, as Imagine Dragons, collectively found ourselves. The process of creating Night Visions was all about sacrificing of the self in order to invest in the group and the music. It changed our lives forever.”

Last week, the band released the never-before-heard demo “Love of Mine” and an accompanying animated music video. The band also launched an interactive website to celebrate 10 years of Night Visions.

Imagine Dragons are currently out on a massive US Stadium tour in support of their most recent release, the double-disc opus Mercury — Acts 1 & 2 (KIDinaKORNER/Interscope). The 32-track epic album debuted on Friday, July 1st, and marks the boldest artistic statement of the band’s career thus far. Executive produced by Rick Rubin, the double album includes hit singles “Enemy” and “Sharks.” Most recently, the band’s current single “Bones” went #1 at Alt Radio.

Music is Universal returns this September in Singapore

Off the back of the widely successful pre-pandemic inaugural edition in 2019, Universal Music Singapore is back with a bang this September with its second iteration of Music is Universal, featuring an equally galvanizing line-up. Taking centre stage at the historic Capitol Theatre, an iconic architectural gem in the heart of Singapore’s Civic District, this exclusive event will aptly go down in history too.

Paralleling the same spirit of universality as in 2019, the invite-only evening aims to spotlight the intricate tapestry of artists under the Universal Music roster, with a truly stellar representation from across the globe and Southeast Asia. A proclamation that music is indeed universal, transcending both boundaries and borders.

The eclectic lineup spans a compelling mix of genres from rock to dream pop. Headlined by Gen-Z’s rock n’roll poster child from Doncaster who has earned co-signs from rock legends such as Mick Jagger, Ozzy Osbourne, and Dave Grohl, YUNGBLUD will captivate any audience with his larger than life personality. His self-titled album, YUNGBLUD, is set to release on September 2 and fans in Singapore will get an energetic taster on his sold-out shows.

Said YUNGBLUD, “Singapore is an incredible city, and to share the stage with the biggest artists from Southeast Asia is so exciting to me. I love going to experience new places and cultures, especially in music, so to have this experience will be unforgettable.”

Joined by Michigan-born singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist – Hayd is known for his lush piano-based pop and signature mellow sound driven by brutally honest lyrics and raw vocals which has garnered him close to 770M career streams.

Said Hayd, “I’m forever thankful to fans in Southeast Asia for showing their massive support for Head in The Clouds and using the track to share their personal snippets of life on social media. It will be an overwhelming sight to behold when the crowd sings it live in Singapore.”

Featuring Violette Wautier, the Thai-Belgian multi-hyphenate whose dreamy alternative pop sound is a blend of ethereal vocals and atmospheric guitars, topped the Apple Music charts at #1 in 7 countries with her single Smoke in 2020.

Said Violette Wautier, “I was in Singapore recently to watch a concert and it was unreal to see what live music meant to the fans. My friends in Singapore were sharing with me that they used to hear I’d Do It Again on the radio and I can’t wait to play it live for the first time at Music is Universal.”

Hailing from Southeast Asia as well, fast-rising Filipino alt-pop and R&B artist Zack Tabudlo will be gracing us with hits such as Binibini, Pano, Give Me Your Forever and more, following his sold-out US tour in May. Now the #1 Artist on Spotify in the Philippines with over 1.1B global streams, Zack is truly one to keep your eyes and ears out for.

Said Zack Tabudlo, “The diverse lineup at Music is Universal is testament that music fans have embraced the many different languages our region speaks. I look forward to sharing the stage with the other regional and international powerhouses and it will be a monumental showcase to exhibit what our borders have to offer.”

Performing alongside these household names is American-born, Singaporean-raised, and of Indonesian origin, Bernard Dinata who goes by the moniker lullaboy. A truly global artist with his uniquely intimate lyricisms, heartfelt acoustic soundscapes, and Berklee-trained pop sensibilities, the 26-year old singer-songwriter is now the biggest independent artist in Singapore and poised to become Asia’s next breakout act.

Said lullaboy, “I can’t wait to perform on the same stage as these amazing acts. It’s a testament to the immense talent here at Universal Music. It will be a night to remember for everyone involved.”

Admission to this exclusive event is by invite only, courtesy of Universal Music Singapore and partners. Event updates will be published on Universal Music Singapore’s social media pages.

Calum Scott “Heaven”, a special project slated for release 9th June 2022

British multi-platinum singer-songwriter Calum Scott’s sublime new single “Heaven” has been refreshed with a spanking new Southeast Asian twist. Acclaimed pop artists in the region hailing from Philippines (Darren Espanto), Malaysia (Diana Danielle), Vietnam (Hoàng Duyên) & Indonesia (Lyodra), reimagines Calum’s latest soulful ballad with their own distinctive touch, yet keeping to the essence of the track at its core. Scheduled for release on 9th June 2022, the 4 forthcoming collaborative singles captures the ethereal feeling of falling in love into the concept of an unimaginable paradise, a universal feeling that certainly transcends boundaries.

Featuring some of the most prominent stars in the region from Darren Espanto, one of the Philippines’ most successful male pop artists in the last decade, to Lyodra, the winner of Indonesian Idol 2020 and a household name known for her vocal prowess, to Diana Danielle, a multi-hyphenate with an impressive social following of more than 6 million and Hoàng Duyên, recognized as one of Vietnam’s most promising rising artists.

Some words from the artists on the special project:

Calum Scott: I am so excited to be working with these incredible artists from Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam! I have always had a special place in my heart for Asia so to sing with local talent from across the region is a real honour. Each of these artists have brought something new to our collaboration of “Heaven” and I can’t wait for everyone to hear them.

Diana Danielle: It was a very exciting experience being able to collaborate with Calum on “Heaven”. Being able to work on a beautiful song with an artist of his calibre whilst being chosen to represent Malaysia is an experience I’ll always hold dearly to.

Darren Espanto: I’m really excited about the collab. I’ve been listening to Calum since he officially released “Dancing On My Own” after his Britain’s Got Talent journey. One of my favourite songs to sing to is “You Are The Reason”. Now, I have the opportunity to collaborate with him on his song and showcase the track with other artists across Southeast Asia. I hope to perform this track with Calum live on stage someday soon!

Hoàng Duyên: Personally, I really love listening to such healing songs, they are like the chicken soup for the soul. “Heaven” sounds exactly like its name. The song is filled with positive energy. This is such a precious opportunity for a young artist like me. Both Calum and I have worked on this project wholeheartedly. We cannot wait to share this song with you. Hope you will love this duet from us!

Lyodra: I’m so excited about this project. I hope the fans will love this song and our collaboration. I hope Calum and I will be able to meet up in person soon & hopefully perform this duet together live. I want to thank Calum for giving me the chance to sing with him, it’s a real honour for me.

The triumphant and timeless ballad reveals Calum’s gift for finding unexpected ways to express universal emotions. “As songwriters, we’re always searching for new ways of saying ‘I miss you’ or ‘I love you’ or ‘I want you back,’” says Calum, who co-wrote “Heaven” with Hayley Warner (an Australian singer/songwriter who’s also penned songs for artists like Katy Perry and Tori Kelly). “‘The concept of ‘Heaven’ is the love between two people being so powerful that it is far superior to anything else, any other form of paradise that could be offered. I loved the idea of putting the power into the relationship.” Threaded with lyrics that offer a certain poetic wisdom, “What good is life if we’re all just waiting to dance in the sky?”, the result is a breathtaking tribute to living in the moment by fully surrendering to love.

Each track will be released alongside an official music video premiere on 9th June 2022 at

7pm GMT+7 / 8pm GMT+8.

Def Jam Philippines launches the latest Rekognize Project

Def Jam Philippines, a division of Universal Music Group (Philippines), announces the launch of the latest #RekognizeChooseDay, the first compilation of its kind in 22 years. The five songs comprising this series are now being released every week this March in all major streaming services.

“The Rekognize project brings together old school, mid school, and new school MCs,” says Daddy A, the label’s A&R manager, “and it is intended to unite [various] rap styles from lyrical to trap drill style, boom bop, mumble, gangstah rap and many more.” The goal of the project, he adds, is to build a united hip-hop community. He notes that the process of recording this project involved both home recordings and, eventually studio recording sessions, where everyone involved followed strict COVID protocols in place at that time. It is, therefore, also a demonstration of the community’s resilience in the face of a major world crisis.

Daddy A says that this compilation reflects the growth of the hip-hop movement in this country in the years since the release of the first Rekognize album in 2000. “Hip-hop is so strong right now, it is so diverse and the culture and community is very rich,” he says, adding that various businesses behind the culture are booming as well, including merchandising and apparel. Also, with COVID restrictions easing up, he says that live shows are making a comeback.

The five tracks of the #RekognizeChooseDay project are based upon five affirmations by the community that tie the record together.

We Choose Our Own Journey – “Lakbay”

“Lakbay” is a collaboration between ThirdFlo, Toney Chrome, SCYE, MSTRYO, Steven Peregrina, Daddy A, and Dash. It was produced by Markbeats of RAWSTARR and mastered by Dhutz Tanedo. The song is about the artist’s journey and its struggles, with a strong note of hope, optimism, and the assurance of divine guidance in this journey. It brings together a classic hip-hop style with a trap and chill R&B feel.

The underlying vocal motif in the song, Daddy A notes, is his voice mimicking a soprano operatic style, pleasurable in the ears and give also a haunting feels in the song.

We Choose Women – “Testify”

“Testify (Pusong Pilipinas),” a celebration of womanhood, brings together some of Filipino hip-hop’s best female talents, including Vets Kaycee of TURF, Soulstress Singer Jazze Manuel, BEBE RIZ is a Christian female rapper, born in the Philippines and currently residing in New Zealand, and fresh talents such as Womens Illest Morena of Phunky Juan, Entertainment, A Burgs & Fateeha of Morobeats, Zae and Tiffany Lhei, Daddy A was responsible for the song’s melody and lyrics of the hook. The track is Produced by MC Dash and Mixed and Mastered by Bim Yance.

This particular single drops just in time for International Women’s Month, which is wrapped around the March 8 observance of International Women’s Day. It brings together various testimonies of womanhood as expressed by these hip-hop performers.

We Choose Unity Through Diversity – “Diversity”

“Diversity” involves the various stylings of ZAKI, KJAH, MEDMESSIAH, BANONG BAGSEK, MISTA, RUDIC, and KONFLICK to produce what is described as a “hip-hop banger.” The concept for this EP came from DJ Med Messiah, who even spits out some bars in his native Tausug language.

As the song’s title suggests, it is a celebration of hip-hop’s stylistic diversity. Here, artists representing various parts of the country come together to produce a genuine expression of what Philippine hip-hop means today.

We Choose to be Different – “Epic”

In “Epic,” Pino G. as a producer and Artist, Southeast Cartel (from Canada), Kristyleswho lives in the US now, and 7 shots of wisdom (Nathan and Harry) collaborate on a track which the producers describe as smooth, soothing, and suitable for vibing while cruising. It was produced by Pino G., mixed by Don Sy, with additional mixing and mastering by GFAB.

The song speaks about struggling and surviving as artists. It describes how each of the artists want to represent themselves and how they move toward the future with nothing standing in their way.

We Choose to Respect and Honor – “Fade to Black”

The final track, “Fade to Black,” is a tribute to two departed musical heroes in this country and the Southeast Asian region, Jamir Garcia (of the band Slapshock) and Dcoy. The current song is built upon an original by Moots of Malaysia, featuring Jamir, which appeared on his 2013 debut album. Daddy A of Def Jam Philippines worked with David Tee of Def Jam to push its release to DefJam Philippines and be Part of the Rekognize Tuesdays. brought together an all-star line-up of talents in multiple genres to make this tribute happen. Bringing together hip-hop and hard rock, the track is a powerful ending to this latest iteration of the Rekognize project.

Featured in this song are Malaysia’s Hip-Hop pioneer, Joe Flizzow, POP SHUVIT, Emmett of Butterfingers and Wing Meng of Love Me Butch. It also includes contributions from legendary Thai Hip-Hop artist Daboyway and Dandee. Rounding out the lineup are Ian Tayao (Queso), Reg Rubio (Greyhoundz), Chi Evora, Ean Lansing (both of Slapshock), and the two departed artists, Dcoy and Jamir Garcia. The song features lyrics in Malay, Tagalog, and English, a true multi-national celebration of two people dedicated to their art in their lifetimes.

What’s next for Rekognize?

Daddy A told us that this new project and it is just the start of Rekognize’s upcoming projects under Def Jam, including singles, EPs, and a possible album or two. He also says that, with the emerging “new normal,” they are planning to put together live sessions and possibly in-person shows sometime soon. With this comeback record from Rekognize, the Philippine hip-hop scene faces the future with hope, optimism, and a craft and artistry unparalleled in its history.
