Ruel on his 4th Wall World Tour in Manila

After visiting Manila in February, Ruel came back to meet his Filipino fans again for his 4TH WALL World Tour show on May 26 at the Samsung Hall. The singer-songwriter released his debut album 4TH WALL in March and kicked off his world tour in Australia in April. The Philippines was the last country in the Asian leg of the tour.

Local rapper Young Cocoa opened the show as he performed his tracks, including “Zesto” and “Manila.”

Ruel then started his set with some of the songs from 4TH WALL: “Go on Without Me,” “Growing Up Is _” and “You Against Yourself.” Fans sang along enthusiastically when “Dazed & Confused” played, and it was followed by another fan favorite “Face to Face.”

On May 20, the Australian artist uploaded a video for “Sitting in Traffic,” which was shot in Manila. “[I wanted to] show some love to you guys because you have been so amazing to me the past few years,” Ruel said. Before singing “Sitting in Traffic,” he asked KZ Tandingan to share the stage with him. Ruel praised KZ after the performance and said, “You were incredible. Are you kidding me?”

Ruel also covered One Direction’s “Night Changes,” and he also performed a couple of songs where he was featured — JVKE’s “Golden Hour” and SG Lewis’ “Flames.”

Ruel’s set included “Must Be Nice,” “Wish I Had You,” “Free Time,” “Lie,” “Someone Else’s Problem,” “If and/or When” and “Younger.”

The encore started with “Painkiller,” and two inflatable yellow balls were brought out and fans playfully passed it around the venue. Ruel then performed “End Scene.” The credits rolled, but Ruel had another surprise for his fans when he took the stage and sang “I Don’t Wanna Be Like You.”

The night’s songs were a perfect balance of hits from his singles and EPs and from his debut album, showcasing his myriad talents, and the fans loved every minute of it.

Ruel also had a show in Cebu on May 27, as well as in Davao on May 28.

Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent Tour: Lewis Capaldi Live in Manila

Scottish singer-songwriter LEWIS CAPALDI is coming to Manila for his ‘Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent’ Asia 2023 Tour on Thursday, July 27th at the New Frontier Theater. Tickets go on-sale on Saturday, April 15th 10AM via TicketNet.com.ph and TicketNet outlets nationwide. Presented by Wilbros Live.

It was almost two years since the Scottish singer-songwriter had released his debut, an album whose blockbuster success had kept him on the road, round the world, constantly in that time. Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent was a set of self-written songs that, out of nowhere – well, out of fiercely passionate word-of-mouth enthusiasm, viral streaming and wall-to-wall airplay – captivated the planet.

Breakthrough single Someone You Loved was 2019’s sound of spring (and summer, and autumn, and winter), a seven-week Number One and the biggest selling single in the UK that year. The following year it won Song of the Year at the Brit Awards (while Capaldi won Best New Artist), by which time it had also reached the top of the Billboard charts in the US, and been nominated for a Grammy. And now? It’s the longest-running UK Top 10 single by a British artist ever – and, with 2.3 billion plays, it’s the fifth-most streamed song on Spotify of all time.

With that tailwind, little wonder, perhaps, that even before he’d released Divinely Inspired…, Capaldi was a record-breaker: he was the first artist to sell-out an arena tour prior to putting out his debut album. He sold all 100,000 tickets in 10 minutes, long before the album was the fastest – and biggest – selling of 2019, and was lodged at the top of the charts for 10 weeks. It would also go on to be the biggest selling album of 2020.

As he points out, even with their global festival run the previous summer of 2019, he and his band were playing slots “where the music had kind of surpassed our position on the bill. And we were playing 2000-capacity rooms when we could have been filling the 15,000 ones. Selling out all of these shows across the world was huge – all these people coming and they’ve bought tickets just to see me.

As he puts it, for album two, the idea was simple but potent: That is, no bells, whistles, cowbells or starry featured vocalists; no ruinously expensive stays in distant studios; no guitars melted down into whizzy keyboards; and no songs about nonsense. Like it was on the first album, straight-up, full-force honesty – lyrical and musical – would be the order of the day. “I don’t want to create a new sound for myself, or reinvent myself. The songs I want to write are emotional songs, about love or loss.

The lead track is a driving pop song written with “the TMS boys” and recalls the best of the trio’s previous collaborations, Someone You Loved and Before You Go. As a follow-up to those two international bangers, Forget Me is evidence of the consistency of Capaldi’s songwriting talent.

Moving piano anthem-in-waiting Wish You the Best proves both points: that Capaldi never sounds better than when he’s doing things on his own terms, nor writes better when he has faith in his own abilities. The song began during a writing trip to Los Angeles.

Say it again: Lewis Capaldi is, finally, back writing and singing the songs that speak from his heart. For all the craziness and intensity of the three years prior to that cut-short arena tour, after two years’ enforced isolation, he’s bursting to share his music, his feelings, once again. If his first album made him an international star, with his second it’s nothing less than superstardom that beckons. And now, having put in the hard yards with the writing and recording, he’s ready to put in the miles all round the world.

This April 2023, Netflix published his documentary “Lewis Capaldi: How I’m Feeling Now”, which was directed by Joe Pearlman. It follows the Scottish singer-songwriter as he overcomes obstacles to become a Grammy-nominated pop phenomenon from his beginnings as a scrappy teen with a viral performance. The movie was well-received by critics and audiences alike, and it won accolades for its frank and close-up depiction of Capaldi’s creative process. In addition, the movie highlighted Capaldi’s musical talents and appealing character, making his fans love him even more and helping his movie reach #1 in the UK. The film’s success is a testament to Capaldi’s rising stardom and Netflix’s ability to curate compelling content that resonates with audiences worldwide.

RUEL returns to Manila for a solo concert on May 2023

Australian singer-songwriter and pop star Ruel is coming back to Manila for his 4TH WALL World Tour on Friday, May 26, 2023 at the Samsung Hall (SM Aura Premier). Tickets will be on-sale on Tuesday, April 11th starting at 10AM via SMTickets.com and SM Tickets outlets nationwide. Presented by Wilbros Live.

At twenty years of age and now on the cusp of releasing his debut album 4TH WALL via RCA (ROW) & Sony Music (Australia), Ruel’s discovery of self-assurance is perfectly timed.

The Sydney-bred singer-songwriter speaks confidently about the release’s authenticity “It’s exactly the music I wanted to write… what I had in my head. It’s me executing my ideas, instead of trying to execute other people’s ideas in my way.”

Executively Produced by long-time collaborator M-Phazes (Khalid, Noah Cyrus, Remi Wolf), 4TH WALL was originally heading down a Pop/R&B lane, however, the pandemic acted as a major personal and professional conduit for Ruel. His matured identity galvanized the decision to forge his own creative directive, and played a vital part in expanding his musical horizons.

Ruel notes “It took way longer than anticipated to get this record right. I spent the last 3 years writing it and wound up with over 100 songs. I rewrote half of them and re- recorded most of them… It’s been the biggest journey making this record…”.

These revelations are strikingly obvious in the 4TH WALL singles that Ruel has treated his audience to, including the dancefloor anthem GROWING UP IS __, dream-like LET THE GRASS GROW, the poignant social and personal observations of YOU AGAINST YOURSELF, and most recently, the beautifully emotive ballad MUST BE NICE.

Since making his debut in 2017 at the age of 14, Ruel has fast become one of his generation’s most influential artists. Sitting with over 2 billion global streams, 1.2 million Instagram followers, and five Platinum records to his name, Ruel is both a seasoned global superstar and a record-breaking musician for tomorrow’s generation.

Add to this stellar collection of bucket list achievements (that most could only dream of), Ruel is also the youngest artist ever to win Breakthrough Artist at the ARIA Awards and the youngest artist to sell out the Sydney Opera House… twice. Not surprisingly, Ruel has caught the attention of some of the industry’s most respected individual’s, including icon Elton John and musical tastemaker Zane Lowe both championing his career developments.

Along with three sold-out world tours, Ruel has shared stages with Khalid, Shawn Mendes, played Tyler, the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw festival, and released collaborations with Denzel Curry, JVKE, Omar Apollo and Cosmo’s Midnight.

Now three EPs deep – READY, FREE TIME and BRIGHT LIGHTS, RED EYES, the time is well and truly nigh for 4TH WALL to take flight. With an impressive collection of Platinum and Double Platinum hits including YOUNGER, DAZED & CONFUSED, PAINKILLER, REAL THING and FACE TO FACE, the release of 4TH WALL will further solidify his position as one of Australia’s most successful artists.

It’s safe to say that in just a few short years, Ruel has a biography that is nothing short of astonishing, and the international press tends to agree. Ruel has now graced the high- end pages of editorials such as Nylon, Vogue and GQ, and has received written praise from influential outlets including NME, The Face, famed celebrity and fine art photographer Rankin’s HUNGER TV and Coup De Main.

As his fans hold their collective breath in anticipation for a global tour announcement, Ruel is ready to reignite his position as one of the world’s most exciting artists. “Okay, time to bring home my sound. I can’t wait” – Ruel
