Indeed, it’s the comeback szn for P-Pop girl group YGIG! Fans are in for a treat as the girls completely revealed their so-called ‘Love Universe’ to everyone. From June 9, 2023 until July 28, 2023, the six loveable ladies dropped four tracks and four music videos, which will be all part of their first mini-album called YLGOIVGE. The album title is an anagram of the group’s name YGIG and LOVE, which conveys the combination of the group’s name and their Love Universe. The girl group narrates the levels of love and heartache on this album, celebrating their successful return on the OPM and International music scene spotlight. Along with their debut single “Shaba Shaba”, the recently released tracks “Doob Doob” “Touchdown”, “BB”, and “IDKY”, are all included in the much-awaited first mini album of YGIG. The songs were intended to be chronologically released in that manner to vividly tell a story of someone’s journey to love, being lost, and heartache.

The main track of YGIG’s comeback, BB (Beautiful Boy) is song that demystifies the feeling of giddiness of first love, and shows that love can also give pain, heartache, and the uncertainty of relationships. The message is perfectly paralleled to the groovy layering of the song’s sound. Members Vien, Hazelyn, JM, Maeg, Jewel, and Alexei were given roles to represent the kind of love BB tells. As the main track, the music video is shot in the Philippines. Speaking of the latest release, “IDKY” has an innocence that can be seen both on the playful sound and catchy choreography YGIG made. The last song on the group’s Love Universe questions love and gives hope amidst all the doubts one could have in a relationship. A warm and wistful rhythm for people who are hopelessly pursuing their love interests despite the uncertainties and stress from falling in love. A sprightly vibe and zestful charm will also surface on the music video of “IDKY”, which was shot on the busy streets of Hong Kong and Parisian-Venetian places of Macau. The group won’t just stop there!

To further celebrate the release of YLGOIVGE, they are preparing for a grand comeback concert which is set to happen this August! Get ready for GREEN LIGHT: GOING ALL THE WAY! It’s a green light for #YGIG as they GO make their music echo all the way, show that they’re better than before, and share to all why there’s no stopping to make this monumental comeback! Happening this August 6, 2023 (6PM) at SM North EDSA Skydome.

The over a month comeback of YGIG made them garner really cool feats! The release of “Doob Doob” made them the cover of “P-Pop On The Rise” playlist, “Touchdown” got playlisted on the said playlist at #1, and was also playlisted under “New Music Friday Philippines”. Moreover, “BB” was at #2 under “P-Pop On The Rise” during its release and its official music video now has over 1.8 million views and counting.

Timmy Albert’s “IT’S COMPLICATED!” Is Everyone’s New ‘Situationship’ Anthem

Navigating the labyrinth of modern relationships can be a perplexing journey, especially when it comes to the enigmatic realm of the so-called “situationships”.

Singer-songwriter Timmy Albert painted this kind of affair in his captivating new song called “IT’S COMPLICATED!”, as it sheds light on the intricacies and emotional rollercoaster that accompanies these undefined connections.

According to Timmy, this funky and vibrant song is a “modern love, dance, r&b, indie-pop song describing a “situationship” and a “gen-z” social media status of a complicated relationship.”

“The upbeat and the “dancy” vibe of the song carries out the good mood despite the uncertainty of no labels, not official, the struggle and hassle but you just can’t seem to get enough of it. You wouldn’t have it any other way with anybody else,” the talented artist states.

Truly, “IT’S COMPLICATED!” portrays the delicate dance between two individuals who are simultaneously more than friends but less than a committed couple. It explores the bittersweet moments of connection, the desire for clarity, and the fear of losing something special.
With this latest release, the artist has created an anthemic piece which he considers his personal favorite thus far. He produced the song along with his band Ryan Pineda (Carousel Causalities), LJ Panganiban (Brisom/Meryl), and Bob Sadural (St. Wolf).

Right now, the song is out on your favorite digital streaming platforms and is included in Spotify’s New Music Friday Philippines playlists in countries like Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Korea, Indonesia, Taiwan, Vietnam, and of course, Philippines.

Ken San Jose Is All About Keeping Things Real In New Single “Tago”

Ken San Jose drops his very first single under Universal Records Philippines. Titled “Tago”, this doesn’t need to be in hiding anymore this 2023.

According to the acclaimed dancer and now a recording artist, this groovy pop song was written by Filipino-Canadian producer August Rigo, widely known by youngsters as the one who co-wrote “Black Swan” by K-Pop group BTS. According to him, the song essentially tells that there’s no point in hiding someone’s relationship anymore. “Tago” is all about keeping things completely real.

Ken also shares that the song points him towards a direction where everything’s authentic and coming from the heart. “The song also applies to my life because I’m coming out with new music that’s keeping it real with what I want to do in my career and keeping things authentic moving forward,” he shares.

Ken’s clear and youthful vocals cascade over nicely produced electronic pop effects and powerful bass throughout the project. The song has some Filipino parts and although it’s somehow a challenge for Ken, he did those parts so well during recording.

August, on the other hand, expresses his excitement for this song because he thinks that it will bring out Ken’s impressive star quality more.

He tells, “It was a real pleasure to be working with Ken and Universal Records on his first release. Ken is a versatile creative. We wanted to give him (produce) something dark but also danceable to bring out Ken’s star qualities. Ken and UMPH gave us some insight on his musical direction and I think we nailed this! I’m excited for everyone to hear this.”

Furthermore, Ken’s New York-based artist buddy Brian Tu worked together with Universal Records’ creatives to craft the song’s very artistic single artwork. Brian is known for making cool content with 88rising artists as well.

“Tago” is part of the latest Fresh Finds Philippines playlist on Spotify! Stream it while it’s hot!

SBTown’s Newest Boy Group, PLUUS, to Hold Their Debut Showcase: PLUUS +ime is Now

PLUUS, the most-anticipated boy group set to debut this year, is summarizing all their pre-debut preparations in their first ever 3-in-1 showcase (debut stage, media conference, and fan gathering): PLUUS +ime is Now.

PLUUS is the newest boy group of Mr. Geong Seong Han, popularly known as Tatang Robin, the producer of the biggest boy group in the Philippines, together with Ms. Adie Hong, the South Korean trainer of SBTalent Camp. The six-member boy group is being managed by his now established company, SBTown, and is being co-managed by Ms. Kathleen Dy-Go, under the record label, Universal Records. The partnership of Universal Records and SBTown promises a successful management for the six-member boy group. With the team up of UR Managing Director Ms. Kathleen Dy-Go and Mr. Geong Seong Han, PLUUS’ debut and future plans are positive and certain.

The name of the group came from the combination of the words “PLUS” and “US” which means that PLUUS (pronounced as “plus”) and their fandom are together in this journey from the start and will continue to stick together for a long time and that the boys will be here to ADD good things in their life.

PLUUS is set to officially debut in their showcase, PLUUS +ime is Now. The event will happen this coming March 31st, 3 PM, at Power Mac Center Spotlight, Circuit Makati.

PLUUS will exhibit everything they have trained for as they prepared a triple set of surprises for this event. Everything from their dance skills, vocals, and rap skills — plus charm, they will showcase the power of six boys who are fully prepared to take a bigger stage. This 3-in-1 showcase comes with the addition of exploring the details of their debut album: PLUUS +.Y.M.

Exciting fact: PLUUS played an important part in the process of producing the debut album. They collectively wrote the songs and choreographed the dance for this debut. The music video will also be exclusively released first in the said event ahead of its official release on their YouTube channel. Plus, a bonus performance of a full English R&B song that aims to reach and conquer the global stage. These are all prepared by PLUUS for fans to see and enjoy because as excited as the fans are, all PLUUS members also can’t wait to meet them.

Before debuting, PLUUS went through four years of extensive training and hardships. Admittedly, the boys said that the path to reaching this much was not easy. But with each other by their sides and the solid friendship they have made, their dream seems a lot more reachable for them. And these dreams are just not for themselves; it is also for the people who are with them along the way, and the people who are supporting them.

The boys are excited to be able to perform for fans in this debut showcase, PLUUS +ime is Now. A lot more performances, contents, and activities including their nationwide concert together with their sister group YGIG, are lined up for the group on this much awaited debut. And they plan to continue doing all these on bigger stages and audiences, officially as PLUUS.

“RENT FREE” by Timmy Albert tells us that we don’t need to get a closure all the time

For Timmy Albert, you don’t need to get a “closure” all the time to completely move on.

Infused by 2000s pop-rock sound, he crafted the song called “RENT FREE” inside his room.

Packed with a lively and infectious rhythm, the song is an open letter about a lingering ex and how you don’t need to stay around to get closure. For the young singer-songwriter who released songs like “TOTGA” and “Best Mistake”, it’s an anthem for people who already moved on and are in a good place – free from worries and stress of their previous relationship.

Furthermore, Timmy describes it as “The feeling of being free and confident about not needing your ex at all even if he/she still talks about you.”

Timmy really wrote “RENT FREE” live band set up in mind to signify his transition into his new sound this 2023. A reason why he tapped Bob Sadural of St. Wolf, LJ Panganiban of Brisom/Meryl, and Ryan Pineda of Carousel Casualties as his live band for this new era.

For the very first time Timmy Albert had a single launch event for “RENT FREE” February 21, 2023 at the newly revamped 12 Monkeys Music Hall & Pub. (WATCH HIGHLIGHTS HERE)

Right now, the song is out on your favorite digital streaming platforms and is included in Spotify’s New Music Friday Philippines playlists in countries like Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Korea, Indonesia, Taiwan, Vietnam, and of course, Philippines.

Korean Actor Kim Won-Shik To Grace Universal Records PH’s First-Ever Mini-Series!

Universal Records, one of the biggest and most-known record labels here in the Philippines just produced its first-ever online mini-series and it’s set to launch this February 2023!

Of course, for a long-time and reputable organization that helped in bringing countless OPM hits for decades, this said show is aptly named after a famous song. This year, everyone is bound to witness a very sweet love story in “Pag-ibig Na Kaya”, led by the now real-life couple Julie Anne San Jose and Rayver Cruz. It is written by JP Lopez and directed by Niq Ablao.

The entire cast will be announced very soon but to spice things up, this show will be graced by a talented Korean actor, Kim Won-Shik, billed to be the second male lead for this show, that is all about love… and its many forms.

According to the celebrity, you can actually call him Sam as well aside from his Korean name. In terms of acting for TV drama, he already has a handful of experience under his belt. He’s notable for his roles in hit K-Drama series True Beauty (2020) plus the famous Netflix fantasy-romance Netflix series, Alchemy Of Souls (Season 1 2022). This project with UR is his absolute first time to work with a Filipino production and of course, his first-ever experience to act with our talented Filipino stars. Being casted in this mini-series also paved the way for Sam for yet another break in his acting career. Won-Shik is now the latest addition to the growing Universal Records Philippines’ managed artists, made possible by Managing Director Kathleen Dy-Go.

One fun fact about Kim Won-Shik; he can really understand and even speak the Filipino language, since he was able to study here in the country for six and a half years.

According to Sam, he became easily invested in his role in “Pag-ibig Na Kaya” after reading the script and quickly felt that its overall treatment is truly inspired by K-Dramas. Although he admitted that he feels pressured since he needs to speak English and Filipino in most of his scenes, Sam considers filming this entire show a fantastic experience on his part and it greatly contributed to his growth as an actor.

He’s very professional, warm, and kind all throughout the filming process of the mini-series. He’s always enthusiastic to shoot his scenes, very energetic in being in character, and always ready to bring good vibes on the set. The actor also said that he quickly agreed to take part in this project after finding out that Direk Niq is handling it since he shared that he already saw numerous works from the talented director.

He shares, “It’s a good experience for me. It’s my first time working with Filipino actors. When I first read the script, I felt like it’s like a Korean drama because you know, there are so many similarities. I even asked the writer if he is inspired by some K-Dramas while making this. It was good! And I really wanted this role here in Pag-ibig Na Kaya”

“During our filming, they’re so kind to me, especially our director. I watched the music video that she made which is ‘Paubaya’ (Moira Dela Torre). Yeah, the color she uses and the storylines, it was really good! I really believe in Direk Niq that’s why I’m excited to join this series,” he adds.

Moreover, Since the Hallyu wave is really strong and alive here in the Philippines, Sam is very excited for everyone to see Pag-ibig Na Kaya and it’s coming out sooner than you think!

Universal Records Philippines Forges Partnership with SHOW Korea To Further Strengthen The P-Pop Scene

Amid massive demand, popularity, and influence of Pinoy Pop or P-Pop right now in the landscape of the Philippine music scene, the home of the finest Original Pilipino Music (OPM), Universal Records Philippines along with SHOW Co., Ltd. have agreed to form a strategic partnership to further strengthen its hype and exposure here in the country.

It also aims to normalize giving the best possible talent and entertainment in today’s mainstream local and even international scenes, followers and supporters of P-Pop while contributing in promoting the one-of-kind Filipino culture and artistry as well.

Present at the contract signing ceremony were Universal Records Operations Manager Peter Chan, Managing Director Kathleen Dy-Go, along with ShowBT Korea, SHOW Korea, and SBTown Philippines CEO & President Geong Seong-Han, also known as Tatang Robin, with Ethan Yang, and Adie Hong.

It’s not a secret that Universal Records has been the major record label which can be called the pioneer in promoting and supporting the rise of K-Pop music here in the country since the mid-late 2000s. From selling CDs and spearheading shows, the label had been there and done that. And right now, it tries to remain at the forefront of innovative promotion of these kinds of music, as well as bridging the gap between different cultures.

UR’s Kathleen Dy-Go believes that there are a lot of talented individuals here in the Philippines who can be “idol material” and it is high time for these people to be exposed to high quality and intensive training, while acquiring the commendable discipline that Korean agencies instill in their trainees.

“It’s such a great honor for the label to acquire a partnership of this caliber. We promise that we’ll work very hard for the potential groups that we will be launching along with SHOW Korea and SBTown Philippines and of course, we have a lot of surprises in store for all of the P-Pop fans out there,” she says.

For the beloved Tatang Robin, it’s finally the right time for SHOW Korea, SBTown Philippines and UR to make this partnership happen so he approached the label first this time around. Both easily agreed to have an immediate meeting since both parties are interested and share the same vision.

“I want to express my gratitude to Universal Records because it did not take long for the label to agree to this amazing partnership. It was quick,” he shares.

As a great CEO himself, Tatang Robin has an exemplary experience in creating a really great boy group, evident in his dedication in training and debuting SB19, who’s perhaps the most popular P-Pop group right now. So now it’s a new challenge for him to create an ultimate P-Pop girl group that will be idolized by many P-Pop and K-pop supporters. Although he’s nervous, he’s optimistic that SHOW Korea and SBTown Philippines can pull it off, of course, with the aid of UR.

He explains, “I believe that it’s the girls’ era this time around here in the Philippine market. As you all know, the most famous groups in South Korea right now are girl groups. It’s just very common here in this world that there’s really an order for everything. So, I think this time is already the right time for the girl groups to be at the top. I hope that this girl group that we’re going to debut is the first to be nominated internationally, like in Billboard.”

“If only fans give their love and support just like they did before in SB19, I believe that it’s also possible. Most of the talents we have, they have been training for up to four years. The shortest is one year and seven months. And as you all know I don’t debut talents who are not yet ready,” he adds.

Looks like the fans are in for a treat in the coming weeks and months because of this exciting partnership.
