Side A Returns for a Highly Anticipated Repeat Concert at Newport World Resorts

Nostalgia takes center stage at Newport World with a world-class concert full of timeless music. The all-time favorite OPM band Side A is back for an epic encore dedicated to their fans from every generation, following the sold-out success of the Redux 360 Experience last September 2022. Then & Now: Side A (The Repeat) will once again shine the spotlight on both original and newer members at the Newport Performing Arts Theater (NPAT) on June 1, 2023 at 8 PM.

Side A grew from humble beginnings performing at the Hyatt-Calesa Bar and Lounge to bigger and bolder stages as they rose to fame in the 90s with iconic tracks such as “Forevermore,” “Hold On,” and “By Your Side.” Founding brothers Rodel Gonzalez (lead vocals) and Naldy Gonzalez (keyboards and vocals) were later joined by Mar Dizon (drums), Pido Lalimarmo (guitars and vocals), Joey Benin (bass), and Kelly Badon (lead guitars). Even through many changes since their start in 1985, the longstanding band bagged two Awit Awards and a triple platinum album.

For nearly four decades, the Philippine’s premiere band continues to captivate the minds and souls of listeners, past and present, across their pop, rock, and R&B genres with original lyrics that tug at the heartstrings. Now, original member Naldy together with a new generation of band members, Ned Esguerra (bass guitar), Yubs Esperat (lead vocals), and Lee Von Cailao (lead guitar), take on the OPM legacy in this most anticipated repeat concert.

Relive the brightest memories with Side A in Then & Now: Side A (The Repeat) at Newport Performing Arts Theater on June 1, 2023, 8PM. Tickets are now available at all TicketWorld and SM Tickets outlets: P5,500 (PLATINUM), P4,500 (SVIP), P3,500 (VIP), P2,500 (GOLD), P1,500 (SILVER), and P800 (BRONZE). An escape to the ‘90s:‘Ang Huling El Bimbo The Musical’ opens at Newport World Resorts

This summer and beyond, Newport World Resorts is breaking out of the ordinary and creating epic experiences and adventures for everyone within one property. Escape into world-class entertainment as the country’s pioneer casino, hotel, and entertainment destination brought its all-Filipino hit musical back to the stage.

On April 21, Ang Huling El Bimbo (AHEB) made its highly-anticipated comeback to the award-winning Newport Performing Arts Theater featuring a new cast, fresh choreography, stellar production, and iconic songs that struck a chord in the hearts of Filipinos. The show has a regular schedule every Friday and Saturday at 8PM, and matinee performances every Saturday and Sunday at 3PM for April with new show dates recently added in May to accommodate more fans and theatergoers.

Newport World Resorts’ production outfit Full House Theater Company (FHTC) has pulled out all the stops to set the stage and prepare the cast during rehearsals. New members of the cast shared their epic experiences in bringing the show to life.

Nino Alejandro and Bullet Dumas showcase their improvements during  rehearsals

Even as a master of various crafts, award-winning artist Nino Alejandro who plays Anthony, still has plenty of new things to learn from the acting workshops with FHTC Director Dexter Santos and Co-Artistic Director Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo. Alejandro shares, “The new experiences I had during our rehearsals were the daily acting workshops we got to do with the First Lady of Philippine Theater, Ms. Menchu Launchengco-Yulo. Also learning from and working with Direk Dexter has helped me sharpen and broaden my process.”

Before joining the cast of AHEB, indie folk artist Bullet Dumas recalled singing the ‘90s iconic track “Poorman’s Grave” in gigs. Now, audiences witnessed him perform it onstage as Emman. Given his familiarity with the piece, the challenge was to give it a new flavor. According to him, “When something you thought was very much familiar with somehow surprises you again and again, you will love the process. It always felt like a Eureka moment whenever Direk Dexter Santos, Menchu Lauchengco Yulo, Myke Salomon, OJ Mariano, and my castmates help me realize different approaches to how Emman can tackle the song.”

Actor, singer, and host Anthony Rosaldo made his theater debut playing young Hector, one of the lead roles in the musical. Since the rehearsals, he knew AHEB is a difficult show to mount yet this brought a fun experience for him as a newcomer. “Coming in as a newbie in theatre, it is important that I kept my focus and really put in a lot of hard work during our rehearsals. The audience will see a very excited and enthusiastic young Hector”, Rosaldo says.

Experience a nostalgic escape to the ‘90s in the hit musical Ang Huling El Bimbo at the Newport Performing Arts Theater. Tickets are now available at Newport World Resorts Box Office, TicketWorld, and SM Tickets outlets: P3,776 (SVIP), 3,236 (VIP), P2,696 (+GOLD), P1,942 (SILVER), and P1,079 (BRONZE). OPM hitmaker Freestyle to celebrate 25 years of music at Music Museum on May 20

After numerous sold-out concerts since the relaunching of Freestyle with original frontman and songwriter Top Suzara last year, the iconic OPM band is set to take the big stage with a 25th anniversary concert happening on May 20, 2023 at the Music Museum.

Entitled “Giving It All This Time”, the concert invites the audience to journey through 25 years of Freestyle’s music and officially mark a new chapter of the band with the all-male cast of Ian Tan, Lerod Cailao, Bouy Manalo, and IJ Garcia joining Suzara.

“This is my 25th year in the industry and this show will, one, be the first official show in a concert setting where we will celebrate with all original songs, and, two, be the resurgence of Freestyle as we make good on the promise to continue together where I left off many years ago, when writing and sharing original songs was what drove us. This concert will be a story-telling journey through songs,” explains Suzara.

With hit songs such as “Before I Let You Go”, “So Slow”, “This Time”, “Till I Found You”, “Para Sayo”, their rendition of “Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang?”, and “Once In A Lifetime”, Freestyle intends to bring its unique brand of music to a bigger stage at the Music Museum in San Juan, Metro Manila on May 20 to welcome more fans after a successful string of concerts from last year.

“The past few months have been awesome. The fans really missed Freestyle especially with Top as part of the band. Most of the venues that we’ve performed in were sold out – which we’re so thankful for,” shares Garcia, who performs as keyboardist and music director.

Meanwhile, Freestyle drummer Cailao recounts the excitement of fans who have even booked flights from provinces or from overseas to watch the gigs.

“It’s amazing to see the supporters of Freestyle really showing support for the band. When they hear Top’s voice and their all-time favorite songs, you can really feel their excitement and emotions pouring out. It’s very touching, and it inspires us to work harder to do great shows every night,” said Cailao.

“I believe the top hit songs of Freestyle – “This Time” and “Before I Let You Go” – still touch the audience up to this point. These iconic songs trigger nostalgia. It is a good thing Freestyle music remained to be aired, used in several movies, and has reached a greater demographic,” shares bassist Tan.

Manalo, who performs as guitarist and has been an avid fan of the band, shares that playing with Freestyle is a dream come true, saying, “As a new band member of Freestyle, I’m still overwhelmed with everything. I still pinch myself at every show we do.”

Following the relaunch of the band in October 2022, Freestyle has also been busy sharing new music with audiences.

“The first new song we released is called “Maybe”, a song that talks of what ifs and second chances. We’ve included this song in most of our live gigs and shows and so far people have been receiving it very well,” shares Garcia.

Frontman Suzara has also hinted at future performances and releases in the pipeline, including concert tours around the Philippines and abroad and more new songs Freestyle fans can enjoy.

With this new and exciting chapter in Freestyle’s journey, the band assures its audience that it will continue to stay true to its distinct brand of original Filipino music telling honest and relevant stories that hit close to the heart.

“We’re surprised to see so many younger people appreciating the songs even if they hadn’t been born yet when these became popular. It goes to show how timeless Freestyle’s brand of music is. It spans generations,” says Cailao.

Tickets to “Giving It All This Time” on May 20, 2023 (Saturday) at the Music Museum are available on TicketWorld and Music Museum. For reservations, please text or call PPMPI at 09285106000.

“TANAW” concert puts a spotlight on the reigning queens of Pinoy Rock

Six of the most iconic women in Pinoy Rock are coming together as solo artists and collaborators for a one-night concert happening on November 26, Saturday (8pm onwards) at The Theatre at Solaire.
Aptly titled TANAW, the three-hour show will feature Filipino singer-songwriters Acel Bisa, Aia de Leon, Barbie Almalbis, Hannah Romawac, Kitchie Nadal and Lougee Basabas as they grace the big stage with songs that rekindle past loves and welcome newfound inspirations.

Elevating the concert-going experience with a balance of grandeur and intimacy, the special performances also promise to show time and again the beauty of empowerment, vulnerability, and purpose.
GNN Entertainment, the show’s producer, is proud to support TANAW in championing Filipina music icons whose enormous contributions to uplifting Original Pilipino Music (OPM) deserve to be heard and celebrated.

“It’s a great moment to witness women making impactful strides in helping revive the live music scene in the Philippines,” shares GNN Entertainment PR and Marketing Director Ian Urrutia in a statement. “We take pride in being part of their crusade to showcase world-class artistry and nurture a fun but enriching experience for fans who are yearning to rebuild their connection with the music that shaped their years and the artists that led them through that journey.”
GNN Entertainment’s Events Director Marie Lara Pauline Bobier asserts that the upcoming concert will serve as a great way to bring back its festive appeal, while helping the audience get through the tough times with stories of optimism and hope. “We want the fans to feel that this concert is both a celebration and a reunion. The ladies have made a mark in the music scene, and we want to honor their contributions through this one-night show.”

TANAW marks the first time that the six solo acts will be performing together for a concert. From their early days as lead vocalists of late ‘90s/early 2000s bands, to establishing their identity as individual artists, the six acclaimed singer-songwriters have proven their staying power with sold-out tours and concerts, chart-topping singles and albums, and a dedicated fanbase.
