It’s that time of the year again: Spotify has just launched 2023 Wrapped, and it’s taking over social media with everyone sharing their results. Packed with brand-new interactive features to celebrate their year on Spotify, users can now discover their personalized 2023 Wrapped experience when they open the app or head to Spotify.com/Wrapped.

At a time when the lines between what’s real and what’s not have become blurry, 2023 Wrapped celebrates that one unique space where 574 million Spotify users kept it real — in how they listened.

New user experience celebrating the real you
In addition to revealing your top artists, genres, songs, and podcasts, Spotify has added new features to bring users closer to the heart of their listening.

●Me in 2023 celebrates a streaming habit that defined your listening this year. The experience will reveal one of 12 listening characters that best describes the way you listened on Spotify. Examples include the Shapeshifter (you’re quick to move from one artist to the next), the Luminary (you play light, upbeat music more than others), and the Alchemist (you create your own playlists more than others do).

●Sound Town matches you to a city based on your listening and shared artist affinity. Listening habits are shared in surprising ways across communities around the world, and 2023 Wrapped celebrates that.

Spotify gives Wrapped a look upgrade this year, your favorite data stories are appearing in a refreshed way users haven’t seen before.

●The Top 5 Genres story shows you how your top five music genres stacked up with a new sandwich-inspired design.

●Serving you more than just your favorite artists this year, Top 5 Artists now lets you see the month your listening peaked for each artist – painting a fuller picture of what you were really feeling the entire year and all the moments that made it.

●Fanboys and fangirls are also in for a treat! Get to hear from one of your top artists directly within your personalized Wrapped via Your Artist Messages. You can then visit the Wrapped feed for video messages from thousands of artists including Taylor Swift, Jung Kook, Ben & Ben, Shanti Dope, FELIP, and more.

BLACKPINK’s Lisa Surpasses 1 Billion Spotify Streams for “Money,” Celebrates in Paris with Home-Cooked Thai Meal

Spotify debuted the fourth episode of Billions Club: The Series, the digital franchise featuring artists celebrating the career milestone of surpassing one billion streams on Spotify.

The episode put the spotlight on BLACKPINK’s Lisa, and celebrated her solo hit “Money” reaching one billion streams. On September 18, the track became her first song to join Spotify’s Billions Club, giving her the honor of becoming the first female K-Pop artist to achieve this milestone on the platform.

While in Paris, Lisa took a moment to celebrate this historic feat and momentous occasion by cooking her favorite Thai dish, Khai Jiao, a shrimp omelet that’s a staple in every Thai home. The K-Pop darling also made her favorite Thai dessert Itim Khanom Pang, a coconut ice cream sandwich with sticky rice, which she loves to eat whenever she’s at her grandparents’ house.

As she prepared her meal, Lisa recalled her first reaction upon hearing “Money” for the first time. “As soon as I heard it, I was like, ‘This is my song!’ When I first got into the record room, I just felt like this was made for me. It’s one of my favorite songs and I’m so happy that you all loved it,” shared Lisa.

Lisa became the first solo K-Pop star to be featured on Spotify’s most popular and highly influential playlist, Today’s Top Hits, following her single’s release last year.

The Philippines ranked amongst the Top 10 countries that streamed “Money”.

Spotify and Jung Kook paint the world ‘GOLDEN’ to celebrate the singer’s first solo album

The global popstar, Jung Kook, has set the world ablaze with the drop of his first solo album, GOLDEN. To celebrate and further fuel excitement around the highly anticipated release, Spotify is bringing fans closer to the global superstar and his music in new ways, from exclusive bonus content to viral takeovers.

GOLDEN MOMENTS

There’s no denying Jung Kook’s Midas touch. After his single “Seven (feat. Latto)” became the fastest song to reach 1 billion streams in Spotify history, Jung Kook has again struck gold and reached yet another incredible milestone with GOLDEN. As of November 5, ten of the album’s 11 tracks are charting on Spotify’s Global Daily Top Songs, with “Seven (feat. Latto)” still topping the list at #1, and title track “Standing Next to You” following at #2. Amassing over 6.4 million streams on the day of its release, “Standing Next to You” became the highest new entry on the chart – a testament to his popstar power in captivating listeners worldwide.

THE GOLDEN TAKEOVER

To kick things off, Spotify and Jung Kook painted one of New York’s most renowned icons golden – almost literally. As published on X (previously Twitter), a silky CGI gold banner was seen unfurling from the top of the Empire State Building to reveal the album title GOLDEN. The activation was met with an outpouring of love for Jung Kook, igniting global conversations around the pop singer. Watch the full video here.

Meanwhile, fans worldwide were in for a treat as GOLDEN took over prominent billboards across major cities in motion and in 3D including New York City, Seoul, Tokyo, Jakarta, and Bangkok. PH ARMYs will be able to spot it in Manila soon, lighting the streets of EDSA Guadalupe on November 10-12.

Gloc-9, Ramdiss and Hero releases highly anticipated Spotify Single “Umaga”

Manila flow masters Gloc-9, Ramdiss, and Hero have joined forces for their newest Spotify Singles track, “Umaga.” This track is part of KALYE X — Spotify’s initiative that spotlights Pinoy hip-hop through meaningful collaborations with artists and communities.

“Umaga”, the final track of the three first-ever original Filipino hip-hop Spotify Single, packs a punch with its unapologetic message on embracing your individuality. It’s a raw and fearless anthem, encouraging listeners to break free from society’s expectations.

Iba’t-ibang daan, isang tagpuan

Gloc-9, Hero and Ramdiss, each hailing from diverse backgrounds, have come together for KALYE X to create “Umaga”.

Gloc-9, hip-hop OG, brings his extensive experience in storytelling through music. “I love writing songs about real stories and struggles of people, and being able to capture what we go through every day. As an artist, I want my music to resonate with everyone, hip-hop fan or not. That is why I take pride in creating songs that tell people’s stories like what we did here for our Spotify Single, Umaga,” he said.

Ramdiss draws inspiration from his personal experiences, creating music that resonates with his fans through his raw and genuine sentiments. He proudly acknowledges the legacy of rap legends who paved the way for his generation, saying, “I take pride in the lessons I’ve learned from those who laid the foundation for rap music in the Philippines. Bringing the epic concert series — from Cebu to Davao — now to the grand finale, KALYE X Manila, held at the Globe Circuit Event Grounds, was a night of the sleekest Pinoy hip-hop beats. In an exclusive partnership with Wish 107.5, KALYE X Manila headliners Gloc-9, Ramdiss, and Hero treated fans with a Wishclusive performance of “Umaga”.

The crowd roared as the headliners took over the concert stage. Kalye X is Spotify’s latest initiative dedicated to Pinoy hip-hop

Expanding the possibilities of Pinoy hip-hop, Spotify launches Kalye X, its latest initiative dedicated to collaborations between artists, fans, and the community. As part of the initiative, Spotify worked with emerging and established Pinoy hip-hop artists to release a series of Spotify Singles. A first-of-its-kind in the Philippines, these original tracks bring together local artists to showcase the depth and diversity of Pinoy hip-hop.

From August until October, three Spotify Singles will be released, featuring artists from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Kicking it off is the dynamic pairing of Midnasty and Cookie$, presenting their track as an ode to the vibrant Visayan scene. Hailing from Zamboanga, the inventive collective Morobeats led by DJ Medmessiah, reimagines the sound of Mindanao hip-hop with their unique track. Lastly, representing the streets of Manila, Gloc 9, Hero, and Ramdiss will pull off a three-way collaboration like no other.

“As a way to bring Spotify’s Kalye Hip-Hop playlist to life, Kalye X aims to amplify the everyday stories and experiences, told by passionate artists and communities. With the growth of Pinoy hip-hop listenership doubling in the past year, it’s important that we empower our artists to share their craft with fans in a deeper way, as well as push the boundaries of Pinoy hip-hop music culture,” said Kossy Ng, Head of Music for Spotify Asia.

Filipinos are fired up for hip-hop

Through its chest-thumping beats and infectious rapid-fire lyrics, Filipinos have had an incredible appetite for Pinoy hip-hop. Local hip-hop songs witnessed an impressive 700% growth in local streams in the past five years, while Spotify’s Kalye Hip-Hop playlist saw a five times increase in listenership since it launched in 2018.

Notably, listenership of Pinoy hip-hop also grew globally at 600% strong with top markets including the United States, Canada, and Australia and more. Spotify’s global reach not only gives artists the opportunity to connect with fans and potential new listeners from around the world, it also serves as a way for Filipinos living overseas to stay connected to local culture.

Speaking at the launch party held in Brooklyn Warehouse in Manila, Kossy Ng, Head of Music for Spotify Asia was joined by hip-hop artists Al James and Cookie$ and shared more insights on the vibrancy of the Pinoy hip-hop scene.

Filipino rapper and songwriter Al James gave a shoutout to the OG Pinoy rappers for inspiring him to pursue his own dreams. “Just by listening to them, they became my mentors. They passed on the energy of Pinoy hip-hop to us. I’m proud of what and where Pinoy hip-hop is now. He also weighed in on the possibilities of Pinoy hip-hop in the global scene, “Parang sabi ni Cookie$ kanina, na-represent niya ‘yung Cebuano. Kaya ng Cebuano, Tagalog, tumagos sa ibang bansa”.

Cookie$ shared how he found his voice as a way to represent his roots, “When I started rapping in Bisaya, I found my niche, and it made me stand out. My language has a very distinct sound and tends to be very passionate. It is important to put Bisaya culture on the map and inspire others looking to follow their passion. Spotify has been continuing to help me and other artists elevate Filipino talent while remaining true to our roots and distinct artistries.”

For the community, by the community

Spotify’s Kalye X launch brought together hip-hop artists and the community to celebrate the potential of Pinoy hip-hop, with live performances by Midnasty, Morobeats, and Al James. Inspired by the Kalye Hip-Hop playlist, the interactive graffiti street art installation by Kayo Cosio and Trip63 breathed life into the venue, while the dance battle featuring the Philippine All-Stars with music by DJ Jazz Zamora displayed hip-hop’s boundless energy.

Spotify and NewJeans celebrate new EP by bringing listeners into the world of NewJeans

In celebration of the highly anticipated release of NewJeans’ second EP, Get Up, Spotify has teamed up with the rookie powerhouse to bring the world of NewJeans to listeners across the globe. Since NewJeans’ explosive debut in July last year, the quintet, made up of MINJI, HANNI, DANIELLE, HAERIN and HYEIN, has been making waves with their music and winning Bunnies[ Bunnies is NewJeans’ official fandom name] over worldwide.

Today, the girls have over 23 million monthly listeners on Spotify, and are once again proving that they are a force to be reckoned with. To amplify the release of Get Up, Spotify has also deployed giant Spotibuninis across major cities in Asia including Manila. These eye-catching installations feature NewJeans’ adorable new bunny character sporting Spotify headphones. Born from the combination of two well-loved characters – minini by IPX[ IPX was formerly known as Line Friends] and TOKKI by NewJeans, the group’s new character has been aptly named bunini, and takes on the nickname Spotibunini for the group’s campaign with Spotify. A special treat awaits fans on-site.

The installation activates the Spotibunini Instagram filter (accessible via @SpotifyPH), bringing extra magic to the giant character and revealing a voice message from NewJeans themselves. PH Bunnies can come and visit Spotibunini at Bonifacio Global City until August 20, 2023. “We’re thrilled to partner with Spotify to present our fans with a diverse range of experiences that bring our group’s unique colors to life. Spotify strengthens its ongoing commitment to Filipino music with the unveiling of the 2023 RADAR artists slate for the Philippines. The global audio platform’s line-up of artists includes fresh P-Pop groups Alamat, VXON, and G22, Hip-Hop trio PLAYERTWO and female artist DENȲ, R&B talent Illest Morena, breakthrough solo acts Paul Pablo, Kenaniah, and Paolo Sandejas, and RADAR returnees mrld, BINI, and KAIA. RADAR, Spotify’s global program that supports emerging artists by helping them reach new audiences, is now in its third year.

From soloists to groups, P-Pop to Hip-Hop, each of these artists across genres have displayed such talent; where they have seen new fans beyond the Philippines! Playlist in a Bottle, Spotify’s latest interactive in-app experience, captures who you are musically right now and then lets you revisit your 2023 musical self one year later. Fast-forward to January 2024, and you’ll find this playlist on your account as a treat from Spotify and your 2023 self.

Here’s how to make your Playlist in a Bottle:

1.Ensure your Spotify mobile app is up to date with the latest version.
2.Click spotify.com/playlistinabottle from your mobile device.
3.Select your time capsule of choice—you can pick from a bottle, jean pocket, gumball machine, lunch box, or teddy bear.
4.Answer a series of song-inspired prompts. For example:
○“A song you’re going to kiss someone to this year”
○“A song that reminds you of your favorite person”
○“A song you need to hear live in 2023”
5.Digitally seal your musical time capsule and send it off!
6.Share a personalized card to your social channels with the tag #PlaylistInABottle.
7.Come January 2024, if you made a Playlist in a Bottle, you’ll receive your personalized time capsule reminding you what you were listening to one year prior.
