Zack Tabudlo and Moira Dela Torre team up for “Iba”

Zack Tabudlo, the hit maker behind songs such as “Binibini” and “Nangangamba” is back with a collaboration with Moira Dela Torre, who is known for her memorable “Paubaya” and for also being the most streamed Filipina artist for 4 consecutive years. “Iba” is now released by Island Records Philippines on all music streaming platforms. Tabudlo wrote the music and lyrics.

Zack says that the song is about the feeling someone in a relationship has when they realize that they are unhappy with the love they thought destiny has given them. He says that the song is apt for Valentine’s Day because it reminds people that heartbreak is also part of the experience of love.

When Zack told Moira that he wanted to work with her on a song, she says that she was down for it. The two have been in touch for some time, exchanging messages and compliments on each other’s music, Zack adds. When he recorded the demo for “Iba”, Zack felt this would work as a collaboration, and her contrasting style, he says, makes this song different but “strong and powerful.”

Zack recorded his part of “Iba” and the instrumentation at his home studio, where he also mixed and mastered the final track. Due to COVID restrictions, however, Moira couldn’t join him in the studio, so they arranged a virtual recording session over Zoom. Moira worked with Argee Guerrero (I Belong to the Zoo) as recording engineer while she was at her friend’s house in El Nido, Palawan.

Zack envisioned “Iba” as a song that evokes the sounds of H.E.R. and Ed Sheeran, which he characterizes as “soul, urban, and pop”. He says that this collaboration brings out a different side to Moira’s sound from her usual material. People should listen to this song, he says, because of the contrast between its sad heart-rending lyrics and a melody and beat one could bop to. Moira adds that this song can help release pent-up emotions and make its listeners feel better.

Ben&Ben reunite with Moira on the confessional ballad “Pasalubong”

After working together last year for the heartwarming ballad “Paalam,” which has reached more than 40 million streams on all combined music platforms, Ben&Ben and Moira are reuniting again for a song that captures the intensity of deep longing and persistent desire.

Their second collaborative single “Pasalubong” is a romantic confessional that drips with unapologetic sentimentality: a song that is defenseless in its yearning and honesty, hoping that one’s profession of love will be received and reciprocated.

According to Ben&Ben, the song was inspired by the double meaning behind the title, which is a term that is commonly used to refer to a gift, and a word that could also mean to meet. “The track is a play on both these meanings,” the acclaimed nine-piece outfit explains.

Moira adds that the song’s impact radiates on a universal level, simply because it shows bravery and honesty despite the odds. “It isn’t so common anymore today to say what you mean,” the hitmaker says. “So I love that after a whole song of poetry, we end with the simplest but scariest lines to say…. Gusto Kita.”

Written and produced by the band and Moira, with arrangement from Ben&Ben’s very own percussionist Andrew De Pano, the folk-pop tune encapsulates the beauty in sparseness, and the magic in turning an outpour of emotion into a generation-defining anthem.

Andrew reveals that he was tasked to oversee the production side of the material, relying heavily on the weight of the word as basis for the arrangement and the overall vibe. “A big immediate difference from the usual Ben&Ben sound is the way the guitars sound, and the absence of most of our usual elements in the beginning. There was a major effort to really embody and project emotions of waiting and uncertainty and longing, and the ‘bass drum’ sound that is present throughout the song is meant to symbolize those times we get so caught up deep in thought that we end up hearing our own heartbeat.”

For their part, multi-awarded singer-songwriter duo Moira and Jason Marvin Hernandez helped finish the lyrics and added lines that give the material its enduring pop appeal. “For Pasalubong, we built it from the original song and added elements to it while in the car on our way to the Ben&Ben house,” Moira shares.

Together, both Ben&Ben and Moira interpreted the heart-wrenching nature of the material with precision and character. They made the song both timely and timeless, with every flow punctuated by unwavering vulnerability, and every word cutting deep and beautifully.
“With Moira and Paolo’s evocative vocal performance and the band’s emotional execution of Andrew’s arrangement, Pasalubong is a song that will certainly bring up all kinds of feelings, and hopefully will give people comfort in knowing that they aren’t alone in their frustration and longing,” the band shares in a statement.

In terms of delivery, Moira is very particular with the tone being conversational, as if telling a friend about her day or sharing the story to a lover. She also commends Andrew for being hands on in the studio, guiding her in every step of the way. “He has this crazy way of making something complicated, seem so simple. There’s this pitch where we used the 7th note for the last chorus which I thought was genius— that was all Andrew.”

“Pasalubong” is the third single off Ben&Ben upcoming sophomore full-length album to be released next month. The song is now available on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Philippines.

Worldwide Sensation Pink Sweat$ celebrates his latest album, “PINK PLANET” with a smash collab with Filipina singer Moira Dela Torre

Pink Sweat$, regarded as Philadelphia, USA’s own rising superstar, is earning his stripes and proving that every bit of praise and acclaim is in its rightful place, with his recent release of both the single and music video for “Heaven,” one of the featured tracks from his latest full-length album Pink Planet, which arrived last February 2021.

Released under Atlantic Records, Pink Planet is a collection of six previously released stellar singles off of his 2020 EP The Prelude and eight brand new tracks, including “Heaven” which drips of sensual melodies from “Mr. Love” himself (a moniker his legion of fans have since called him…) and the music video, as expected, is simply an awesome visual treat. In fact, Pink Planet highlights much-needed light and love after a rough year that was 2020: “with a purpose to heal and gift fans with much-needed good vibes, and to talk about highs, lows, fears and successes.”

Pink Sweat$ rose to international fame and acclaim with his original song “At My Worst,” which is one of his greatest performing singles to date, as the music video has more than 50 million views and counting on YouTube.com, and more than a million home-made videos on online video platform Tik Tok has been created so far using the song… it is also worth mentioning that his music has been exploding onto various global music charts and playlists, often in Asian territories like Malaysia, Indonesia and most notably, the Philippines.

So of course, Pink Sweat$ is celebrating the release of his single and album by making things extra-sweet n’ special for his Filipino fans, as he also recently dropped a live performance video and lyric video of the track “17” (also off of Pink Planet) which features a jaw-dropping collaboration with none-other than the Philippines’ Queen of Pop and Soul Moira Dela Torre. Compared to the track’s original bouncy and infectious version, the collaboration – which is now available for viewing on all digital streaming platforms – is stripped-down to its most potent version, and will surely tug at the heartstrings of listeners, many of whom are absolutely smitten with how disarmingly enchanting Dela Torre’s vocal melodies are.

Dela Torre herself couldn’t contain her excitement, and reveals that it is a timely celebration of one of many milestones in her career: “This collaboration marks the third anniversary of my first-ever solo concert, and this is an extra special way to show my gratitude to everyone for the best three years of my life so far…” the Filipina singing superstar was quoted saying in a prior interview. Dela Torre’s social media accounts exploded soon after she teased the announcement of the collaboration with Pink Sweat$ last February 2021.

Truly, this is a musical-match-made-in-heaven for music fans who have been aching for these worlds to collide.
