The one and only Makata Sa Pinas Gloc-9 is releasing yet another single this May! This new song is called “Kumpisal”, the Filipino rap icon’s third release for his Pilak album in celebration of his 25th anniversary in the Philippine music industry. Joining him in this string-fueled and vibrant collaboration is Skusta Clee, who’s undoubtedly one of the most popular rap artists on the OPM scene today.
Written and composed by Gloc-9 with musical arrangement, mixed, and mastered by Thyro Alfaro, “Kumpisal” looks into the dynamics of the Catholic sacrament of confession from the perspective of a confessee. The lyrics? It’s classic Gloc-9 in his prime that you’ve always loved — bathed in cryptic word play and making this mundane topic another poetic masterpiece. Gloc-9 said that he already wrote different songs on various topics, but releasing a song about religion and spirituality? Not yet. Thus, this song was carefully crafted and was made possible this year.
Joining the veteran hip-hop superstar in this latest endeavor is Skusta Clee and this the second time that these two rap idols have collaborated. Their first pairing was in Skusta Clee’s single “Karma” wherein the Gloc-9 wrote the rap part. Its official music video released last November 2021 now has over 26 million views on YouTube and even reached #1 Trending For Music.
An official music video for “Kumpisal” will also be released alongside the single. The zany visual was shot inside a church with guest appearances by Shanti Dope, DJ Klumcee and Hellmerry. Prior to this release, Gloc-9 was able to drop singles “Paliwanag” with Yeng Constantino and the title “Pilak” as part of his 25th anniversary album. Watch out for “Kumpisal” this May on your favorite music streaming platforms.

Rapsody Gloc-9 & Shanti Dope April 2, 2022 – 8pm Newport Performing Arts Theater, Resorts World Manila
We all aspire to live the ideal life where we can be safe, be content, and be at peace. But while having these all may be wishful thinking; we can always look forward to better days by the choices we make. Our fate, after all, has always been in our hands. Nevertheless, here’s a sheer reminder that our choices really matter.
Gloc-9’s latest single “Paliwanag” featuring Yeng Constantino is a refreshing rap track filled with cryptic poetry, non-specific, yet filled with truths regarding life’s many pitfalls, yet hopeful as it alludes that we are the masters of our destiny. It is all a matter of choices; hopefully, the right ones.
“Sabihin mo / Darating ba ang araw / Na di ka takot iwanan ang mga mahal mo / Sa bahay na hindi sila mababasa tuwing malakas ang bagyo / Darating ba ang araw na ‘di kailangang itago ang mga yapak mo / Kailangang lumayo yumuko mag pasawalang kibo / Pag tinatanong ang karapatan mo…,” the Makata sa Pinas reflects.
When asked how he was able to write this new masterpiece, Gloc-9 shared that he just weaved his poetry based on his own daily observations, with so much empathy towards our ordinary countrymen. He also clarified that “Paliwanag” isn’t not trying to be preachy or self-righteous.
Yeng shares, “We have the power bilang mamamayan to decide. And siguro nga parang ‘yon ‘yung parang naging impact sa akin. Noong natanggap ko na ‘yung final mix nito, ‘pag pumupunta ako ng work pinapatugtog ko ‘to lagi tapos walang palya, every time lalo na doon sa pinaka passionate part ng kanta which is ‘yung sa huli, talagang naiiyak ako. And ‘yon ‘yung gusto natin na impact. I agree with kuya Gloc na we’re not here to preach to anyone kasi iba-iba ng pinaniniwalaan.” She also hopes that people will find this song just as impactful and eye-opening. “Kung ano man ang maging interpretasyon ng mga tao sa kantang ‘to, may it lead to something beautiful and maghahango sa kanila sa kung saang dilim sila naroroon. Yung mga questions na ‘ano ba ang kaya kong gawin at this moment as a powerful person, sa desisyon ko na maglelead din sa change rin ng life ko,” Yeng adds.
This is Gloc-9’s first release as he comes back home to Universal Records after his two-year stint as an independent artist. Also, it’s his second official collaboration with Yeng after over a decade. The two teamed for an equally socially aware song “Bugtog” off the rapper’s acclaimed Talumpati album in 2011.
Thyro Alfaro helmed the musical arrangement of “Paliwanag”, while the concept of its dazzling music video was from the guys of Youmeus MNL and was directed by Amiel Kirby Balagtas.
“Paliwanag” is now out on all streaming platforms. The song is just one of his many releases this year under UR so watch out for more singles later this year.
And guess what, you’ll hear this one here first. This is just the first track of his upcoming 25th anniversary album which will be titled PILAK.
This 2021, we already saw him serenade hearts with “Sakin Ka Na Lang”, groove to the summer anthem “Dance Under The Sun”, and pay tribute to all the frontliners in “Kaya Natin ‘To”. But if you think you’ve seen it all from DJ Loonyo this year, you gotta prepare your senses for what is to come.

We have seen many one hit wonders rise and fall out of the limelight since they can only do, well, only one hit. But to continually attain success is a sign of dedication and love for the craft. Such is what Aristotle Pollisco aka Gloc-9 has been doing the past 24 years as he established his niche as a major influencer in the Philippine hip hop scene.
Twenty-four years—WOW!
Gloc-9 rose from the ranks of hip hop wannabes in 1997 setting his roots from doing collaborations with other hip hop artists and doing underground album releases. It is no secret as to how hard he struggled and how much he sacrificed to claw his way out of anonymity—but as they say, “You can’t put a good man down.” His remarkable climb to being one of the pillars of Philippine hip hop only proves the fact that hard work, dedication, and love of what you’re doing can lead to success. A story that reverberates as an inspiration to young aspiring artists.
With a career spanning almost a quarter of a century, Gloc-9 is more into making sure that the hip hop industry continue on into the next generation by opening the flood gates of opportunity to the many talented Filipino rappers using his social media clout as a platform for collaborations.
His recent “44 Challenge” generated thousands of responders that showcased how much talented Pinoy rappers are just hiding at the seams waiting for their chance to take center stage.
Gloc-9 is now paying it forward. He was that talented youngster waiting for his chance when a Man from Manila took notice and welcomed him into his house, gave him the needed push and guidance to succeed in the cutthroat world of showbusiness. In like manner, Gloc-9 goes out of his way to help young talents, inspiring them to love their craft, and sharing the stage with them to showcase their talent.
Gloc-9 has nothing more to prove as an artist. His awards cabinet is already filled to the brim. Just recently, he was one of the recipient of the prestigious SUDI National Music Award bestowed by the National Commission for the Culture and the Arts. Another affirmation of his impact in the industry he loves so much.
He is Aristotle Pollisco, Gloc-9, rapper, songwriter, the blacksmith of words, a true Filipino poet, an icon.
Congratulations and looking forward to many more productive years ahead!
