Ben&Ben marks monumental milestone with Homecoming Concert this weekend

2022 has been a massive year for Ben&Ben. After headlining a successful North American tour and securing the #1 spot on Spotify Wrapped’s most streamed local group in the Philippines list for the 3rd year in a row, the nine-piece act was recently announced as a performer at the Clockenflap: Hong Kong’s Music & Arts Festival—solid proof of their growing popularity overseas.

To celebrate a year of record-breaking achievements and monumental milestones, the multi-awarded band is ready to make headlines once again with their Homecoming Concert, happening on December 18, 2022 (Sunday) at the SMDC Festival Grounds.

Marking their return to Manila with their biggest concert yet, Ben&Ben promises to show gratitude to the fans who have supported their music journey since day one.

“To match that sense of gratitude, we wanted to mount our largest show yet, with our longest set, most ambitious performance ideas, and simply the best of what we’ve made through the years,” the chart-topping Filipino group shares in a statement. “We are most excited about bringing this show, finally, to our Liwanag, because it had definitely been a long journey with a lot of hard work to get here.”

Concept-wise, Ben&Ben’s Homecoming Concert 2022 is centered around the feeling of home: as a place, idea, or person of comfort, or as a reassuring gesture of security and intimacy. As the Paninindigan Kita hitmakers put it, the outdoor music show is also about coming home to each other and being home to each other.

“We’ve always likened how each piece of music we make is a little gift that our listeners have allowed into their lives, and how they have likewise felt the comfort of home through our songs, so it’s in that give and take and sharing of the feeling of home that we ultimately want to highlight for this show.”

In terms of set list, the acclaimed band takes pride in finding a perfect balance of impact, energy, emotion, and storytelling. “To do this, we imagined ourselves as audience members and tried to approximate what might feel best after a certain song or what might be the most sensible in terms of managing energy for both them and us throughout the lengthy set,” says Ben&Ben. “We feel the set we eventually came up with is the perfect rollercoaster — one that keeps you hooked and engaged the whole time without lingering too long on the highs or the lows.”

The Homecoming Concert will also feature guest performances from artists who shared their incomparable talent to make their sophomore album, Pebble House. Vol.1 an incredible piece of music history: from Filipina neo-soul artist KZ Tandingan to young alt-rock visionaries Zild and Juan Karlos.

Tickets to Ben&Ben Homecoming Concert 2022 can be purchased via the ovationtickets.com and ticketnet.com.ph. This event is presented by Ovation Productions, Ben&Ben Music Productions, Sony Music Philippines, and Tap Go; brought to you by SMART Telecommunications Inc., and Angkas, in cooperation with Pru Life UK.

Spotify Wrapped 2022: OPM Artists NOBITA, Zack Tabudlo, and Ben&Ben Lead the Charts

Spotify unveils its 2022 Wrapped campaign — announcing the top artists, albums, songs, playlists, and podcasts that showcase the vibrant kaleidoscope of more than 456 million listeners around the world. Spotify users can also find their personalized Wrapped experience, with latest features that celebrate how they soundtracked their year.

Globally, Bad Bunny, Taylor Swift and Drake topped the Wrapped lists across most-streamed album, track and artist. For the third year in a row, Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny took the number one spot for most-streamed artist globally, with more than 18.5 billion streams this year.

Closer to home, FIlipinos are taking their Wrapped results local.

Outranking global hits, NOBITA’s Ikaw Lang is the most streamed track in the Philippines, followed by Arthur Nery’s Pagsamo (#2), Adie’s Paraluman (#3), Zack Tabudlo’s Pano (#4) and Arthur Nery’s Isa lang (#5). Listeners are feeling all the hugot this year, where Pinoy love songs take center stage, even beating out Troye Sivan’s Angel Baby (#6) and Justin Bieber’s Ghost (#11).

Jaeson, Mark, Roman, Sam and Richmond of NOBITA thank their ‘Nobibis’ who helped put them on top, “We are truly honored to be part of Spotify’s Wrapped Top Lists this year and be recognized alongside other great Pinoy artists. Undeniably, our fans had been a huge part of this but we’re also grateful for Spotify’s untiring support to our music and its clear vision for their artists. Like most artists, we’re also eager to see our band’s Wrapped and see what we have done throughout 2022 as musicians.”

Clinching five out of the top ten spots in this year’s Top Artists are Pinoys, and breaking through the list is Zack Tabudlo, who secured the #3 spot and emerged as this year’s Top Local Artist. Pulling listeners into his own cinematic universe, Tabudlo’s cathartic “Episode” album is also the second most streamed album in the country. Ben&Ben proved themselves to be a mainstay among the local favorites as they maintained their fourth place from 2021 and kept a spot in the top list for the fourth consecutive year.

“We are thrilled to see that Filipino artists have continued to shine on the local stage, as seen on 2022’s Spotify Wrapped results. This shows that the Philippines are increasingly listening to and supporting their homegrown talent and we have seen an almost 50% increase in streams of local music the past year” said Kossy Ng, Head of Music, Spotify Asia. “We’re excited to continue working closely with local musicians and pave the way for more aspiring artists to flourish on the platform.”

Spotify’s RADAR program, an initiative to support emerging artists, has enabled new local artists and tracks to be added to the daily soundtrack of Filipinos’ lives. Other emerging artists like P-Pop groups, BGYO and BINI, are amongst the Top RADAR Philippines Artists, alongside Adie.

It has been another stellar year for podcasts in the Philippines, as Spotify continued to launch Exclusive and Original content with a slate of Filipino podcasting talent. Pinoy creators reign in this year’s Top Podcasts. Intimate sharing of life stories and advice are a hit amongst Filipinos with Barangay Love Stories, Spotify Exclusive skypodcast, Dear MOR: The Podcast, and Spotify Original Hugot Marcelo taking up the top four spots. Comedic conversations also resonate amongst locals with Spotify Exclusive Punchline with Alex Calleja taking up the fifth spot.

“Our Spotify Exclusive skypodcast is our first collaboration together as a couple, and it had been truly amazing to receive overwhelming support from our #skyfam. Podcasting has enabled us to talk in-depth about intimate topics. It’s even been a real help for our relationship as we’re able to spend time together and discuss things we normally wouldn’t. Being part of Spotify’s Wrapped Top Lists inspires us to keep growing as individuals so we can keep sharing new ideas to our listeners.” shares Kryz Uy of skypodcast.

Starting today, eligible users can also access their personalized 2022 Wrapped experience exclusively in their updated Spotify mobile app (iOS and Android). As an added treat to this year’s Wrapped season, Spotify is bringing Wrraped Playground to the Philippines! Between 10-11 December, Filipinos are invited to come to play at SM Mall of Asia (MoA). Experience different exciting activities and catch none other than BINI and BGYO!

Ben&Ben’s First Major Concert Moved to December 18 at the SMDC Festival Grounds

The highly-anticipated first major concert by award-winning collective Ben&Ben that was postponed last September 3 due to poor weather has been rescheduled for Sunday, December 18 at the SMDC Festival Grounds (in front of the Solaire Resort & Casino Manila).

In a statement released through Ovation Productions, the producer of the concert, Ben&Ben apologized to the fans who were eagerly anticipating the show that was originally supposed to be a send-off for Ben&Ben as they embarked on their first ever North American tour that is slated for this September to October 2022.

“We want to extend our gratitude to those who showed and lined up outside CCP Open Grounds last September 3 despite the inclement weather conditions. We also want to thank the rest of the ticket buyers for their patience and understanding,” said the band.

“We are delighted to announce that the Ben&Ben Send-Off Concert will now be held on December 18 at SMDC Festival Grounds.”

Ovation Productions and Ben&Ben also released guidelines for those who purchased tickets.

Option A: Carry forward your existing tickets as they will be honored. Previously purchased tickets are still valid for the new date with no further action required.

Option B: Request for a full refund. Ticket holders who are unable to make the new date will be allowed a refund from the period of September 12-30, 2022. Emails will be sent to ticket holders notifying them of how to apply for the refund from 12 Sep 2022 onwards.

Fans may contact Ovation Hotline numbers at (+63 969 632 7948) or email support@ovation.ph for further inquiries.

The December 18 concert will be helmed by Ben&Ben creative director Karen dela Fuente, who will be working with director Paolo Valenciano as well as Pat Tiu of Bad Student and Big Bulb team. Shakira Villa-Symes will once more serve as lighting director.

Prior to the departure for their North American Tour, Ben&Ben recently released their latest non-album single, “The Ones We Once Loved” which according to the band’s co-vocalist and guitarist Miguel Guico, “is a song about closure and the courage to admit when a love isn’t meant to be.”

The collective also did a video collaboration with Indonesian singer-songwriter Pamungkas for a re-imagination of Ben&Ben’s “Paninindigan Kita” into an English song, “Stand By You” last August.

Ben&Ben is made up of twin brothers Miguel and Paolo Guico on acoustic guitars and vocals, Poch Barretto on guitar, Keifer Cabugao on violin, Andrew de Pano and Toni Muñoz on percussion, Pat Lasaten on keyboards, Agnes Reroma on bass, and Jam Villanueva on drums.

The nine-piece collective has endeared itself to their legion of fans for their heartfelt songs, solid musicianship and their electric live performances, and their dedicated fan engagement. Their repertoire of songs sings of love, peace, friendship, and positivity.

Ovation Productions’ Ben&Ben Send-Off Concert is sponsored by Angkas and Smart in cooperation with Pru-Life UK and TapGo TV as its major media partner.

Pamungkas, Ben&Ben, Munimuni, and more to perform at GNN Presents: Gimme Shelter

After holding hybrid and online events during the height of the pandemic, GNN Entertainment returns with Gimme Shelter, an outdoor music show happening on August 6, 2022, Saturday at the 123 Block, Mandala Park in Mandaluyong City.

“Named after The Rolling Stones’ classic 1969 single, Gimme Shelter recognizes the impact of live music as home to a lot of people, and in many aspects, serves as a reprieve from the agonizing uncertainty that defined the early years of the pandemic,” says GNN Entertainment producer Milley Habito in a statement. “Somehow, we’re bringing back the homey and comforting vibe of attending live shows, where patrons are excited to experience a music gig in a venue filled with strangers and familiar faces.”

Indonesia’s most-streamed artist of 2021, Pamungkas is set to headline the serialized event, and will mark his first time to perform in the Philippines.

The Jakarta-based singer-songwriter continues to make waves in the region with the hit single “To The Bone” peaking at no. 1 on Spotify Indonesia’s Top 50 charts and no. 5 on Spotify Philippines’ Top 50 charts for multiple weeks. Earlier this year, he was also recently nominated for Best Solo Asian Act at the BandLab NME Awards 2022—thanks to the massive popularity and critical acclaim of his 2021 album, Solipsism 0.2.

Pamungkas is gearing up for a Southeast Asian tour to promote his fourth studio album, Birdy with stops in major cities across Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand.

Ahead of their North American tour and an upcoming major concert, Ben&Ben is returning to the live stage with a highly anticipated performance at this year’s Gimme Shelter. The nine-piece collective will also join Pamungkas as one of the headliners, along with some of the biggest names in the Philippine indie music scene: Munimuni, She’s Only Sixteen, and Cheats.

Firmly rooted in the culture of fostering community and inclusivity through live music, Gimme Shelter is the first in a series of shows (produced by GNN Entertainment) this year inspired by song titles of classic pop/rock tunes. “This is our way of taking the sour parts of the distant past and making a sweet batch of lemonade: served fresh for people who want to experience a ‘home’ away from home—a shelter, so to speak,” shares GNN Entertainment’s Milley Habito.

Pre-selling tickets are available for purchase, with a price of P950 for a limited time only! Get it here.

Ben&Ben wades through a bad breakup on angsty rock anthem “Langyang Pag-ibig”

Ben&Ben chronicles the inevitable disintegration of a romantic relationship on “Langyang Pag-ibig,” their latest single under Sony Music Philippines.

Witnessing how a burning love ultimately ends up in a disaster, the nine-piece Filipino collective writes a song that wades through a bad breakup with the stinging anger of someone struggling to put their life back on track.

Arranged with classic rock bigness and percussive elements, the song packs a devastating punch with a chorus that articulates one’s feelings of being betrayed.

“It’s the song where we flexed our musicality the most,” says the acclaimed band. “It’s three songs in one song, but it still sounds like one song.”

“Langyang Pag-ibig” is recorded at Spryta Studios, the same place where Ben&Ben recorded the entirety of their multi-platinum debut album, Limasawa Street. It was produced by Ben&Ben and Jean Paul Verona, mixed by Sam Marquez and Verona, and mastered by Leon Zervos.

“We’ve always wanted to make a song with this vibe, and we think the songwriting in itself begged for it,” shares the chart-topping folk-pop group in a statement. “It helped that Jean Paul and Sam were very familiar with the vibe we were going for and that helped create the general mood and sound we wanted for Langyang Pag-ibig.”

According to the band, “Langyang Pag-ibig” was approached in the familiar way their songs were recorded. They jammed it first a couple of times, and arranged it together slowly as if building a house of cards. “We also balanced elements and see how high we could take the themes,” adds the band.

Ben&Ben’s “Langyang Pag-ibig” is out now on all streaming platforms worldwide via Sony Music Philippines.

Ben&Ben captures fearlessness in pursuing romance with 2022 single “Paninindigan Kita”

Filipino folk-pop collective Ben&Ben marks a new era in music with the release of their 2022 single “Paninindigan Kita.”

Written by Paolo and Miguel Benjamin, the upbeat pop song captures the fearlessness of fighting for someone you love despite the disapproval from the people around.

“It is also an ode to a lover that might be hesitant to take a step forward in the relationship,” says the nine-piece outfit. “It’s a heartfelt song that gives a balance between understanding where the lover is coming from, and a gentle reassurance that the one singing the song is ready and sure, after learning a lot so far about life and love.”

Expressing persistence in pursuing romantic love, “Paninindigan Kita” hits the emotions even more majestically with layers of melodic guitar lines, dazed harmonies, and deft arrangements. With the help of their long time producers and friends, Jean-Paul Verona and Sam Marquez, the track soars in mythic spectacle while maintaining a pop-leaning sound. As Ben&Ben puts it, “We really wanted to be unapologetically ourselves and let our natural tastes flow deep into the core of the song arrangement.”

“Paninindigan Kita” holds a special place in the band’s catalog, with it being the first song that they recorded in an actual studio since the pandemic started. Ben&Ben made the entire song at Spryrta, the same place where they recorded their multiplatinum full-length album, Limasawa Street.

“A definitely memorable part of the whole recording was doing the whole song in the excess of a day, working from 10am to 6am and rushing to the airport to catch a flight to Cebu only a few hours later,” shares the award-winning band.

It’s worth noting that “Paninindigan Kita” sounds incredibly effortless as far as songwriting and creating melodies are concerned. This time, Ben&Ben takes pride in bringing to life their emotions though a song, and celebrating how universal some stories are, regardless of its specifity in details.

“We were able to block out the noise and focus on simply speaking to our Liwanag,” the Pagtingin hitmakers point out. “As compared to before, we’re a bit more open in the way we speak, and we’re a bit more bold and confident with our attitude towards the subject of love, especially because the writer has matured and gained a deeper understanding of how love works.”

This year, the nine-piece ensemble hopes to share their music more to a global audience. With “Paninindigan Kita” marking an entirely different phase in creative and goal-setting terms, Ben&Ben is all set for bigger things in their career moving forward.

“Paninindigan Kita” is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Philippines.
