Manila Gets Closer to Mackenyu

Mackenyu Arata, one of the hottest and most sought-after international stars, recently spent a few days in Manila. And while the Japanese-American actor’s popularity reached new heights after he played Roronoa Zoro in the live-action adaptation of the manga and anime series “One Piece,” Mackenyu had already starred and wowed in various series and movies before the Netflix show. Filipino fans, both old and new, had an opportunity to get closer to Mackenyu during his fan meet on Nov. 20 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Q&A with Mackenyu
The night’s event host, actress Denise Laurel, sat down with Mackenyu to get to know the actor a little bit more during the question-and-answer segment. When asked about his impression of Filipino fans, the actor said, “I feel the love. Thank you, everyone. I’m having a great time.” Mackenyu also said he tried chicken adobo and loved it.

He shared that he is an introvert and that it’s hard for him to “completely engage” at first, but seeing the fans and their reactions makes him happy. Mackenyu said he was made aware of his huge fanbase in the Philippines: “It’s the biggest fanbase outside of Japan. I’ve got numbers on my Instagram.” He also shared that he wants to visit Boracay.
Denise asked Mackenyu about fashion, and the actor described his fit for that night as “casual and comfortable.” He looked effortlessly stylish in his white shirt, black pants, and sneakers.

Mackenyu also talked about preparing for different roles. He has been an actor for years and has starred in “Rurouni Kenshin: The Final,” “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure,” and “Fullmetal Alchemist,” among others. The actor said that understanding the character is very important, as well as the script and storyline.

Here’s another important question that night: Is Mackenyu a cat person or a dog person? “I used to be a cat person … and then I met my dog.”
Some lucky fans, including a mini Zoro, also asked Mackenyu some questions. When asked to describe Filipino fans, he said, “This is easy. Passion!” In return, the actor asked the crowd about the places he should visit in the country. Mackenyu heard someone shout, “My heart!” And he replied as he put his hand on his chest: “Oh my god, that’s so beautiful! I’m always there.” The boy who dressed up like Zoro asked Mackenyu what makes him blush, and he said compliments make him kilig. He then asked mini Zoro if he would like to star in the second season of “One Piece.” Mackenyu invited the boy to come up on stage when mini Zoro asked for a photo with the actor.

Filipino 101
During the Filipino 101 segment, Mackenyu learned the meaning of different Filipino expressions and phrases, including “sana all,” “salamat,” “masarap,” “mahal kita,” and “kilig.” Mackenyu saying “kilig” several times throughout the event made the fans — you know it — kilig!

Happy birthday, Mackenyu!
Some fans prepared a video for Mackenyu and wished him a happy birthday since he celebrated it just a few days before the fan meet. A cake was brought out, and the crowd sang the birthday song for the actor.

“Definitely coming back”
Mackenyu said that he had a lot of fun during the fan meet and said that he will “definitely” come back. “I’ll see you guys when I come back. Thank you, all!”

BLACKPINK’s Lisa Surpasses 1 Billion Spotify Streams for “Money,” Celebrates in Paris with Home-Cooked Thai Meal

Spotify debuted the fourth episode of Billions Club: The Series, the digital franchise featuring artists celebrating the career milestone of surpassing one billion streams on Spotify.

The episode put the spotlight on BLACKPINK’s Lisa, and celebrated her solo hit “Money” reaching one billion streams. On September 18, the track became her first song to join Spotify’s Billions Club, giving her the honor of becoming the first female K-Pop artist to achieve this milestone on the platform.

While in Paris, Lisa took a moment to celebrate this historic feat and momentous occasion by cooking her favorite Thai dish, Khai Jiao, a shrimp omelet that’s a staple in every Thai home. The K-Pop darling also made her favorite Thai dessert Itim Khanom Pang, a coconut ice cream sandwich with sticky rice, which she loves to eat whenever she’s at her grandparents’ house.

As she prepared her meal, Lisa recalled her first reaction upon hearing “Money” for the first time. “As soon as I heard it, I was like, ‘This is my song!’ When I first got into the record room, I just felt like this was made for me. It’s one of my favorite songs and I’m so happy that you all loved it,” shared Lisa.

Lisa became the first solo K-Pop star to be featured on Spotify’s most popular and highly influential playlist, Today’s Top Hits, following her single’s release last year.

The Philippines ranked amongst the Top 10 countries that streamed “Money”.

I’m so happy to join this billions club. Thank you so much for loving Money, you guys made this happen! It’s something that I will remember for the rest of my life!” said Lisa of “Money” reaching 1 Billion streams.

You can check out the full episode now on Spotify’s Today’s Top Hits Instagram, X (Twitter) and YouTube channels.

Ayala Malls Cinemas Celebrates Disney Animation Studios’ 100 years with the Philippine Premiere of WISH

This holiday season, Ayala Malls, the premier lifestyle destination in the Metro, is turning dreams into reality, and wishes into unforgettable experiences! Collaborating with Disney Animation Studios, Ayala Malls Cinemas hosts an invitational screening of Wish, the latest musical-comedy from Walt Disney Animation Studios.

Wish tells the captivating tale of Asha, a quick-witted idealist, whose powerful wish is answered by the cosmic force, Star. Together, they embark on a magical—and at times perilous—adventure to conquer their most formidable foe, the ruler of Rosas, King Magnifico.

With its inspiring narrative, top-notch visuals, and enchanting music, Wish promises to be the must-watch movie of the season, tailor-made for families and friends. Ayala Malls adds an extra layer of magic to these family-friendly outings by offering fun activities for everyone.

On November 18, Ayala Malls hosted the Philippine premiere of Wish at Glorietta Cinemas, and delighted guests with exciting pre-show games and activities at the Glorietta Activity Center, sponsored by Disney. These fun activities included hair braiding, coloring corners for the kids, and face painting as well as a special performance of “Aking Hiling,” the special Filipino rendition of the movie’s main soundtrack, by Zephanie Dimaranan who performed it for the first time live! Zephanie is also set to perform the song on the Wish 107.5 Bus this November 25 and at her upcoming meet and greet at Ayala Malls Central Bloc.

Starting this November 22, Wish will be shown in cinemas across the country. And because not everyone was able to catch the premiere, Ayala Malls happily invites friends and families to the movie’s grand opening weekend, this November 25 and 26, and to experience the same fun activities.

Come this Way to Rosas as the cinema lobbies will be beautifully transformed with stunning floral archways and a Wishing Wall installation inspired by the Kingdom of Rosas, that will surely transport moviegoers into a fantastical space.

Find not only picture-perfect corners but also fun activities to keep you entertained. At the “Hairstyle Inspired by Asha” Corner, young guests can elevate their dos with stars, ribbons, and butterflies, just like Asha. At the “Have Fun Like Valentino (the goat)” Corner, enjoy fun face-painting activities for the kids. The Wishing Wall, on the other hand, illuminated by brilliant lights and balloons, serves as a grand canvas where guests are invited to post their drawings and write down their wishes on the wall. Who knows, your wishes might just come true! A 20ft installation of Star can also be spotted at the center of the space. But don’t worry, for those around Ayala Malls Manila Bay and Ayala Center Cebu, you will have your Stars to gaze upon, too.

From the activity center to the cinemas, be wonderfully enveloped in the whimsy of Wish as even the cinema lobbies will all be dressed up, inspired by the Kingdom of Rosas.

“At Ayala Malls, we strive to create exciting opportunities for families and friends to come together—whether it’s through shopping, dining, or catching a movie. We ensure that these experiences are not just ‘fun visits’ to the mall but memorable moments spent with loved ones,” says Chrissy Roa, Group Head of Marketing and Communications for Ayala Land Estates and Ayala Malls.

Watching movies at cinemas has always been a great parent-child and family bonding activity that cuts across generations. Discover the large-than-life displays of Wish at Ayala Malls Cinemas nationwide. Tickets are now on sale at all Ayala Malls Cinemas, Zing app, or SureSeats.com.
