Ken San Jose Is All About Keeping Things Real In New Single “Tago”

Ken San Jose drops his very first single under Universal Records Philippines. Titled “Tago”, this doesn’t need to be in hiding anymore this 2023.

According to the acclaimed dancer and now a recording artist, this groovy pop song was written by Filipino-Canadian producer August Rigo, widely known by youngsters as the one who co-wrote “Black Swan” by K-Pop group BTS. According to him, the song essentially tells that there’s no point in hiding someone’s relationship anymore. “Tago” is all about keeping things completely real.

Ken also shares that the song points him towards a direction where everything’s authentic and coming from the heart. “The song also applies to my life because I’m coming out with new music that’s keeping it real with what I want to do in my career and keeping things authentic moving forward,” he shares.

Ken’s clear and youthful vocals cascade over nicely produced electronic pop effects and powerful bass throughout the project. The song has some Filipino parts and although it’s somehow a challenge for Ken, he did those parts so well during recording.

August, on the other hand, expresses his excitement for this song because he thinks that it will bring out Ken’s impressive star quality more.

He tells, “It was a real pleasure to be working with Ken and Universal Records on his first release. Ken is a versatile creative. We wanted to give him (produce) something dark but also danceable to bring out Ken’s star qualities. Ken and UMPH gave us some insight on his musical direction and I think we nailed this! I’m excited for everyone to hear this.”

Furthermore, Ken’s New York-based artist buddy Brian Tu worked together with Universal Records’ creatives to craft the song’s very artistic single artwork. Brian is known for making cool content with 88rising artists as well.

“Tago” is part of the latest Fresh Finds Philippines playlist on Spotify! Stream it while it’s hot!

Ed Sheeran’s ‘Subtract’ Advanced Listening Event at the MOA Eye

Good news, Filipino Sheerios! You have the chance to be the first ones to listen to Ed Sheeran’s upcoming fifth studio album, ‘Subtract.’

Warner Music Philippines is holding an exclusive album listening experience at the Mall of Asia (MOA) Eye on May 4, 2023. This is the day before Ed Sheeran is set to release his latest album across all platforms.

Each cabin on the MOA Eye will be converted into a private ‘Subtract’ listening booth, where fans will have the once-in-a-lifetime experience of riding the ferris wheel while enjoying snippets of new music from Ed Sheeran. Those who want to take part in this event simply need to visit the MOA Eye during mall hours and pre-save the album on their listening platform of choice – it’s that easy!

As if being the first to hear ‘Subtract’ isn’t exciting enough, those who are lucky enough to be part of this event will also get the opportunity to win official Ed Sheeran merchandise.

Those who have been following the British singer-songwriter’s journey know that his upcoming album will be the most honest and vulnerable one yet, as it draws from hard-hitting events that Ed has faced in recent years.

He recently released a new single called “Eyes Closed,” which has an upbeat pop feel to it. However, closer inspection of the lyrics reveal that it captures the essence of love and loss, which is also reflected in the official video.

“This song is about losing someone, feeling like every time you go out and you expect to just bump into them, and everything just reminds you of them and the things you did together. You sorta have to take yourself out of reality sometimes to numb the pain of loss, but certain things just bring you right back into it,” Ed shared about the song and its video.

If this single gives any indication of what we can expect from ‘Subtract,’ it’s clear that Ed’s new album will be one that bares his soul and taps into his most genuine emotions.

So what are you waiting for? Mark your calendar as not to miss the opportunity to be one of the first people to experience Ed Sheeran’s ‘Subtract’!

An escape to the ‘90s:‘Ang Huling El Bimbo The Musical’ opens at Newport World Resorts

This summer and beyond, Newport World Resorts is breaking out of the ordinary and creating epic experiences and adventures for everyone within one property. Escape into world-class entertainment as the country’s pioneer casino, hotel, and entertainment destination brought its all-Filipino hit musical back to the stage.

On April 21, Ang Huling El Bimbo (AHEB) made its highly-anticipated comeback to the award-winning Newport Performing Arts Theater featuring a new cast, fresh choreography, stellar production, and iconic songs that struck a chord in the hearts of Filipinos. The show has a regular schedule every Friday and Saturday at 8PM, and matinee performances every Saturday and Sunday at 3PM for April with new show dates recently added in May to accommodate more fans and theatergoers.

Newport World Resorts’ production outfit Full House Theater Company (FHTC) has pulled out all the stops to set the stage and prepare the cast during rehearsals. New members of the cast shared their epic experiences in bringing the show to life.

Nino Alejandro and Bullet Dumas showcase their improvements during  rehearsals

Even as a master of various crafts, award-winning artist Nino Alejandro who plays Anthony, still has plenty of new things to learn from the acting workshops with FHTC Director Dexter Santos and Co-Artistic Director Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo. Alejandro shares, “The new experiences I had during our rehearsals were the daily acting workshops we got to do with the First Lady of Philippine Theater, Ms. Menchu Launchengco-Yulo. Also learning from and working with Direk Dexter has helped me sharpen and broaden my process.”

Before joining the cast of AHEB, indie folk artist Bullet Dumas recalled singing the ‘90s iconic track “Poorman’s Grave” in gigs. Now, audiences witnessed him perform it onstage as Emman. Given his familiarity with the piece, the challenge was to give it a new flavor. According to him, “When something you thought was very much familiar with somehow surprises you again and again, you will love the process. It always felt like a Eureka moment whenever Direk Dexter Santos, Menchu Lauchengco Yulo, Myke Salomon, OJ Mariano, and my castmates help me realize different approaches to how Emman can tackle the song.”

Actor, singer, and host Anthony Rosaldo made his theater debut playing young Hector, one of the lead roles in the musical. Since the rehearsals, he knew AHEB is a difficult show to mount yet this brought a fun experience for him as a newcomer. “Coming in as a newbie in theatre, it is important that I kept my focus and really put in a lot of hard work during our rehearsals. The audience will see a very excited and enthusiastic young Hector”, Rosaldo says.

Experience a nostalgic escape to the ‘90s in the hit musical Ang Huling El Bimbo at the Newport Performing Arts Theater. WALLICE announces “Mr Big Shot” EP to be released on June 23, shares new single “Best Friend”

Hot off the heels of a US Jawny tour and with more dates on the horizon with The 1975, Wallice is back with big news. Her new Mr Big Shot EP will be released via Dirty Hit on Friday, June 23rd. The EP is yet another triumph in songwriting, with Wallice giving a masterclass in Gen Z’s hopes, dreams and failures. Today we are getting our first look at new music with Wallice gifting us the new song “Best Friend.” The song is a nostalgic, gritty, angsty look at friendship, romantic and/or platonic as Wallive explains “A recurrent theme in my music has been friendship. I think this song can easily relate to both friendship and the friendship within a romantic relationship. I’ve had a couple falling outs with various friends throughout my life, I think it’s just part of life and growing up. Even though that friendship might not serve you anymore it’s still so easy to reminisce on it and miss it.”

This marks Wallice’s first new single following “Japan” and her EP, 90s American Superstar, last year. The indie pop wunderkind has swiftly become an artist to watch, with her tongue-in-cheek, self-effacing anthems that capture the anxiety of growing up. Wallice is also hitting the road for a string of headline shows this summer which kicks off in Toronto on June 19th, with stops in Chicago, New York City, Los Angeles, and more.

*denote dates supporting The 1975

After picking up her first instrument at age 6, Wallice started writing songs in middle school and later played in her high school band, inspired by the lyricism of Thom Yorke, Lana Del Rey and the punky irreverence of Weezer and No Doubt. She also modeled and acted (once appearing in an episode of Frasier) throughout adolescence, with her former actress mother supporting all creative pursuits. A proud college dropout, she attended the New School in New York City for Jazz Vocal performance for a year before moving back to California and connecting with childhood friend Marinelli, who helped her hone the wistful indie pop style that led to her rise.

A breakout 2021 culminated in the release of her debut EP Off the Rails, her signing to Dirty Hit, her first sold-out headline shows, and support tours. Her second EP 90s American Superstar pushed Wallice even further, chronicling the rise and fall of a fictional version of herself. She wrapped up 2022 on a very high note with a gorgeous autobiographical song and video titled “Japan” and a sold-out US headline run. Now about to tour Asia and Australia as direct support for The 1975, Wallice is rolling out her third EP while on the road. She’ll then roll into a headline US tour this summer before heading to the UK for Reading and Leeds. She has found champions in the likes of Vogue, New York Times, The FADER, BBC Radio 1, Pigeons & Planes, Steve Lamacq, Zane Lowe, and NME, where she was named as part of the ‘NME 100’ for 2022.
