120 MINUTES OF MINHO MAGIC

A sea of cheers and pearl aqua light sticks filled the MOA Arena last January 28 to herald the fan meet of SHINee member, Choi Min-ho. Better known as Minho, the South Korean singer, screen actor and songwriter entertained his adoring fans for over 120 minutes with music, missions and must-know new trivia about the man of the hour.

“It’s been a while and it’s making my heart flutter”, shares the heartthrob. And the years not seeing Minho onstage was evident as his fans were very receptive to his stage antics together with local host, Sam Oh. From wearing a barong, the recreating scenes from various K-dramas, to fan ticket raffles and more, how fortunate indeed were those present at the venue to witness the evening’s ceremonies. Of which he blushes, “I’m so excited for this first fan meet in the Philippines”.

Beyond the games, Minho eagerly shared his solo tracks onstage. Mixing his palpable energy and engaging lyricism, the SHINee member talked about his tracks – namely “Heartbreak” and “Runaway” and how he is proud performing them for admirers of his music. “I’m very happy that the first fan meet outside Seoul is in the Philippines”. And with that, we can feel his warmth towards the loving Shawols present. Assuring the fandom’s request for a possible return show with his groupmates to happen again in Manila.

After the 2 hour program, we can safely say that it truly was a lucky choice for his fans to see him live.

FELIP defies the status quo with new single “ROCKSTA,”announces debut EP under Warner Music Philippines

Ken Suson is no stranger to the limelight- after all, he is 1/5th of P-pop titans SB19, who recently conquered the world with their “Where You At?” Tour. There’s no denying their collective success, who are also hands-on with their personal endeavors. FELIP, Suson’s solo music project has been on everyone’s radar since its inception in 2021. His previous releases, “Palayo” and “Bulan,” are punchy and catchy tracks highlighting his straightforward lyricism, vocal range, and proud “Bisdak” heritage. This unique and passionate approach to music sealed a deal with major label Warner Music Philippines for his highly-anticipated EP launch.

FELIP is ready to go harder against the grain this year with his new single “ROCKSTA.” He lives up to the rockstar lifestyle for this short yet powerful track- a no-nonsense attitude to his artistry. The 1-minute, 47-second track takes inspiration from hip-hop and R&B music. “ROCKSTA” is also a fitting teaser for his debut solo EP, entitled “COM • PLEX,” coming out on February 3. Often used to describe something difficult to understand, a complex may also mean a facet of a person’s unconscious, influenced by their thoughts, emotions, and experiences.

FELIP’s debut EP encourages listeners to be in tune with themselves, embrace their complexities, and know that they’re one-of-a-kind. Even with the solo project, he remains active in SB19, and he’s happy to have the ever-loyal A’TIN’s support. Join him on his journey as he takes you into his inner psyche. It can get too much to handle- but it’s a fitting description of what’s to come from this breakout artist.

“ROCKSTA” is out now on major streaming platforms.

KAIA brings back the fun in pop music on the performance video of “Turn Up”

fter earning rave reviews for their Y2K-indebted track “Dalawa,” KAIA marks another creative triumph for P-Pop with the release of another banger under Sony Music Entertainment.

The Filipino girl group’s new single “Turn Up” unabashedly displays their signature brand of sass while reviving the bold, explosive sounds of early 2010’s dance-pop.

The release of “Turn Up” comes with a music video (performance version) directed by Denny Lee and Jake Jung. The visuals find KAIA performing the track with a synchronized choreography.

“Because it’s upbeat and danceable, we thought a party concept will best for it, so people could have fun whenever they hear Turn Up,” KAIA shares in a collaborative statement. “We want our listeners to feel good as they vibe with the song.”

The catchy track was written by KAIA themselves, and helmed by acclaimed K-Pop producer Lee Oh Won, who has done impressive work for international artists such as Stray Kids, SHINee’s Taemin, TVXQ, SB19, and more.

As pointed out by the five-member act, “Turn Up” is an escapist anthem about setting one’s worries aside for the time being and taking pleasure in moments that call for fun and adventure.

“We got so busy stressing out about things that we couldn’t control,” says the Blah Blah quintet. “This song somehow encourages listeners to break away from the mold, live in the moment, and let their body groove into the music. Sometimes all you need is to disconnect from the outside world and be yourself.”

“Turn Up” will also be part of KAIA’s debut EP to be released in the coming months. The song will be performed live at the Pinoy Pop Convention 2023 (PPOPCON), an ultimate fan gathering and celebration of Filipino pop culture and music.

KAIA’s “Turn Up” is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide. Watch the music video (performance version) here

Trot singer Young Tak announces PH visit this February

(Manila, Philippines: Monday, January 30, 2023) Highly acclaimed trot singer and Korean superstar Young Tak is coming to the Philippines, as announced by global concert promoter Live Nation Philippines. The South Korean singer, songwriter, actor and television personality’s first Manila visit is happening on February 6 and 7, 2023, for a series of shows and promo appearances.

Debuted in 2007 as a ballad singer with his first album ‘Young Tak Disid,’ Young Tak started his career by releasing the trot album ‘Nuna You’re Perfect’ in 2016. In 2020, he became well-known by placing second in the TV Chosun and South Korean reality TV audition show for a singer who performed trot music out of 17,000 participants. The trot is a popular genre of Korean music characterized by its repetitive rhythms and vocal inflections.

In the same year, Young Tak received accolades as the Newcomer CF Star Award at the 2020 MTN Broadcast Advertising Festival; Rising Star Award at the 2020 Trot Awards; nominated as Best Trot Song for “Jjiniya,” won the Hot Trend Award and Best Songwriter Award at the 2020 Melon Music Awards.

His 2020 hit single, “Jjiniya,” has reached 4.5 million views on YouTube and serves as a sneak peek at the excitement his 2023 shows will bring. Young Tak’s latest album MMM released in 2022, was his first full record in over 17 years.

‘Hello Love, a Valentine Getaway’ by Kuh Ledesma and Isabella on Feb. 11

On February 11, a Saturday, experience a unique pre-Valentine event titled Hello Love, a Valentine Getaway, headlined by the original Pop diva herself, Ms. Kuh Ledesma and her daughter Isabella.

This Valentine Getaway is happening at the Hacienda Isabella, nestled near Tagaytay City and an ideal way to celebrate the special day away from the hustle-bustle of urban life.

Feel the love amid the cool breeze brought about by the ridges and forests of the scenic mountains, as the guests are treated with a sumptuous dinner buffet spread out in an open air garden setting while being serenaded and entertained by the unrivaled and rare appearance of the mother-and-daughter singing tandem.

What makes this unique from the previous mother-and-daughter concerts together?

It’s the very idea that both are staging it in “the season of love.”

“Valentine’s Day is not only for lovers or romantic love. We will also share songs with different perspectives on love and life. I have gone through so much in relationships… the ups and downs have taught me good experiences and Godly wisdom. My heart is bursting with the desire to share.

“It is also unique because it is unusual for concerts to be celebrated outdoors and almost in the place where we as artists reside. It is intimate because we are truly at home in Hacienda Isabella. Even the people assisting us are dear and close to us—the production people, the waiters, the housekeeping staff, and also our chef,” Ledesma described it.

For the Pop Diva, she and her daughter chose to perform in a more intimate setting as opposed to more and more artists doing it in arenas and big venues these days.

“This Valentine’s season, it will be a welcome respite to have a show far away from all the busy and frenetic city living. Hacienda Isabella’s homey and relaxed atmosphere and cool weather will [definitely] give the audience a different kind of Valentine’s Day experience,” she said.

On the other hand, Isabella, described Ledesma as someone who gave her the spotlight rather than living under the shadow of a singing icon. To date, the singer-songwriter and recording artist leads worship services from time to time on Sundays at the Hacienda Isabella. She expresses her passion for arts through painting and is currently helping to publish a booklet of prayers called Pray Away written by Rita Marie Abiog.

Hello Love, a Valentine Getaway takes pride in its beautiful backdrop with sculpted and well-lit trees, a real moon, and the sprinkled stars lighting up the skies.

After dinner and show, guests can also opt to spend the weekend at Hacienda Isabella’s cool and homey ambiance via its luxurious room accommodations.

Here are the special package rates:

A room for two guests is at P4500 per person, which includes dinner and the concert (premium table), overnight stay, after-concert pica-pica, and breakfast.

Room for three or more people: P3500 per person, which includes dinner and concert, overnight stay, after-concert pica-pica, and breakfast.

If guests opt for dinner and concert only, it’s at P2000.

Dinner is at 6:30 pm and the show starts at 8pm.

1ST.ONE announces comeback with the highest budget PPop music video

Renowned Philippine Pop boy group 1ST.ONE comes back to the music scene with the highest budget P-Pop MV yet worth 20 Million Pesos for their new song ‘Problem Child’ helmed by company CHECK which has worked with K-Pop household names BTS, BlackPink, and EXO.

As Philippine Pop (P-Pop) groups rise to the occasion of delivering high-quality music and performances, the genre has proved itself to be a force to be reckoned with and boy group 1ST.ONE has undeniably contributed to raising the standards in the industry with the enchanting melody and concept of their tracks.

1ST.ONE represents their management well as the name of the group itself carries the legacy of their company, First One Entertainment. Being known for their strong and charismatic persona, the group will showcase their fierceness in their latest comeback, Problem Child.

Korean company CHECK helmed the music video for this comeback, working with some of the biggest names in the industry, including but not limited to BlackPink, EXO, BTS, and Cha Eunwoo. With this and a budget of a whopping 20 Million Philippine Pesos for the song’s music video, being the highest budget ever of a P-Pop group to date, the pressure to be extremely ready for the shoot was really challenging for the group.

Nevertheless, of course, 1ST.ONE pushed through and was still at their best. Jayson, the group’s maknae and rapper shares, “It was definitely a blast working with them [CHECK]. I’m very thankful because they gave us a unique experience compared to the past music videos that we have done. We are very grateful that they took care of us so well.”

Aside from the impressive production of the song, Problem Child really pushes the boundaries when it comes to its musicality. Max, the group’s main vocalist, mentions how it is their toughest and heaviest song yet, not just with its choreography but also lyrically.

The track has an interesting concept of “breaking the norm,” referring to an existing defective system filled with “inequality, disorder, and machinations.” It tackles the idea of initiating change and making it right in our own way.

Jayson talks about the likes of Robin Hood who steals from the rich to help the poor, while in the process, not glorifying doing bad deeds to achieve a good end but is more of being willing to sacrifice oneself in order to make things right.

“You can think of Robin Hood and Batman as vigilantes, and many more heroes being misdirected as villains by a corrupt system. Nevertheless, they remain as heroes within themselves still willing to sacrifice continuously even if they are considered the bad ones,” he reiterates.

This concept explores a territory in P-Pop that has never been completely looked at, that’s why J, one of 1ST.ONE’s rappers, hopes that this comeback will be a good representation of the future of the P-Pop industry, aiming to expand and grow more.

As for upcoming projects, Alpha, one of the group’s rappers, wants to take Philippine Pop to the highest level, and to achieve this, he aims on collaborating with fellow P-Pop artists such as Alamat, BGYO, BINI, VXON, KAIA, G22, and PHP.

The rapper further states, “Initially, of course, we’d love to kick things off with our dream collaborations within the P-Pop industry, and that would be with DIONE and SB19. We go way way way back just with these 2 groups. We think it’s going to be an explosion.”

Not failing to mention their supporters who they call “For.One,” meaning “Forever One” for wanting to be with them through ups and downs until the end, the P-Pop ensemble ensures them that their comeback will push the group’s limits and get them out of the box they are used to being in.

On behalf of 1ST.ONE, Alpha desires for the P-Pop community to not miss out on their comeback Problem Child for this marks the first time ever for Philippine and South Korean directors to collaborate and create an outstanding masterpiece of an MV that fans “haven’t seen before.” The rapper states that the group really planned and prepared everything to give everyone “the best MV of all time.”

1ST.ONE will come back with their track Problem Child and will release it on January 31, 2023 that can be streamed through Spotify, Apple Music, and other music platforms. Meanwhile, its high-budget music video will be streamed on 1STONE official Youtube channel.

Abby Clutario releases debut single ‘Tadhana’

Music pioneer and multi-instrumentalist indie musician Abby Clutario marks her musical debut under AltG Records through the release of her Chapman Stick revival of UDD’s ‘Tadhana.’

Abby became an official recording artist of AltG Records, a sub-label of GMA Music, last November 8. She is known in the music scene as an indie artist and the first one and one of two who can play a Chapman Stick, an electric instrument with approximately 10-12 strings in the Philippines.

She shared that picking ‘Tadhana’ as her first single was a collaborative decision with Artist and Repertoire Manager and In-house Producer Kedy Sanchez. She is grateful for the opportunity and is excited about releasing the song, “Very grateful ako at the same time very excited to be able to release a song thru a label like AltG Records. Being an independent artist for 20 years, I can say na marami na akong pinagdaanan na challenges ng isang musikero and now dahil sa AltG I can say na mas may chance ako na maiparinig at ma-share ang aking music sa mas maraming listeners.”

Abby also revealed the process in reviving the song, “Ang Chapman Stick ay isang napaka-versatile na instrument. Bukod sa kaya niyang bumagay sa kahit anong genre ng music, masasabi ko na very soothing ang kanyang tunog at sadyang babagay sa mga ballad na style katulad ng Tadhana. Nung inaareglo ko ang kanta para sa voice ng Chapman Stick, sinugurado ko lang na mas ma-highlight pa rin ang main melody ng kanta and ang Chapman Stick ang nagsisilbing support and accompaniment nito.”

She also admitted that it was challenging but is happy with the result, “Siguro ang pinaka-challenge is a personal one, which is how to give justice to this song na maganda na ang pagkakalikha to begin with. My version is a stripped-down version na tanging ‘yung voice and Chapman Stick lang ang maririnig. I’m happy na sinuggest ‘yun ni Sir Kedy kasi I really also like the song.”

Abby’s debut song was #5 on iTunes PH’s Top 100 Songs chart upon its release on January 20 and is included in Spotify’s Fresh Finds Philippines playlist.

Tune in to Abby Clutario’s ‘Tadhana’ on all digital streaming platforms worldwide.
